Hey guys i currently have my 6600GT @ 542/1202

if i go any higher what so ever on the core clock i see artifacts,i think the memory however has some more juice left in it...

my question to u is...

if i bought a after market cooler (i had the FV-900CU in mind) would i be able to raise the core clock speed more without seeing artifacts ???

thx for any replies

If you are currently on the stock cooler and the artifacts you are referring to are core-related artifacts (i.e. texture corruption / discoloration etc.) and not memory related artifacts (i.e. texture blackouts) then most probably yes.
Plus there is always the voltage mod...

EDIT: Oh, and welcome to AT forums

If you want to push it even farther, a aftermarket cooler would probably help. Do not get the FV-900 though, the 6600GT does not require such a good cooler and getting a 50$ heatsink for a 100$ card is not worth it. I'd suggest getting a VF-700Cu, when I had a 6600GT, I took it to 600/1200 with the VF-700.

hmmm...ok i see what ur saying...

but the FV-900CU supports all of the latest GFX cards,so i was going to get that one just incase later on i upgraded that i could just transfere the cooler to the new card...

because the FV-700CU doesnt support 7 series nvidia cards or X1800/X1900 ATi cards,...

so what do u think i should get ???

also in my country the ...

FV-700CU = $60
FV-900CU = $80

which one ??? if i could hit 600 core with either i would be o so happy

What I hear from other members, the VF-700 also fits on the 7 series.
When my 7900GT finally arrives *prays for availability* I re-use the VF700 I have.
In single card setup, one of my cards does 600 core, the other (sold already) did 590. On the other hand, both cards are Gainward golden samples with hand-picked cores and 1.6ns ram. So for your card (if it's regular), you have the risk of buying the cooler and ending up just 20MHz higher...but at least a lot cooler...

alrite sounds fair...

but i would like to get the VF-900CU just to make sure of cimpatibiltiy because i dont think it is with alot of the newer cards...

and yea i will be please if i only get a small overclock from here on out,as the cooling part will be enought for me to buy it anyway...

current idle temp = 42 degrees
current full load temp = 89 degrees

so i need the cooling anyway

nice MEM speeds lots of ppl (me included) have problems raising the MEM at all my Leadtek does 570 (easily) on the core artifact free and below 70c - but think the Leadtek stock cooler is actually quite a good design...

BUT... my MEM will not go above 1090 - then it fails Coolbits test

However, i would only really recommend buying a vf900 if you intend to upgrade your GPU sometime soon also - as it seems like a lot of £$£$£$ to spend just to OC a 6600GT a little bit better...

vf700 should be excellent for what you want to do...

plus it will be OK for your next GPU i.e a volt modded 7900GT
