I just ordered an e-Vga 6600GT from newegg, got here timely as always, and popped it in my machine, and to much delight....

It performs worse then my 9600XT. I really, really have no idea what's wrong, cleaned the drivers, updated to the latest drivers for everything.. I have a..

Biostar P4VMA-M
P4 2.8ghz 400FSB
512mb pc2100
320w Enlight PSU
GeForce 6600GT
and all that random on-board crap.

Not unstable at all, was even able to overclock it.. But i'm just not sure.

Are you benchmarking it, or are you playing games? How much worse is it? Is the card completely tanking, or is a few FPS lower? Give as much info as possible.

Problems as in, in 3dmark05, I got just under 1000 with my 9600XT, now, I get just around 910, and in the CS: Source stress-test, i've lost about 20 fps under even the default settings.

I already tried that, ran the driver cleaner, and got the absolute latest drivers for everything.

back up and reinstall os? i have a OS and a storage partition on same drive, so reinstalling OS is a breeze. Im going to do that tomorrow with my new upgrade to A64 3000+ winchester and Epox NF3 mobo. I also run MSI 6600 GT AGP.

Not to crap on slick, but he was given a laundry list of things to try in another thread to try to fix the problem, and never acknowledged that he did any... It's stupid to assume the card's bad under the conditions in which he was using it.

Yea I saw that, refer to this thread and try some of the things mentioned, my friend just got an MSI 6600GT and even I can tell the difference just from the get-go, it's a neat little card! slicks thread

Yeah, it has a lot to do with the conditions under which you are using your card. When I first received my eVGA 6800NU as an upgrade over my 9700pro, I was moderately dissapointed. I didn't notice any significant speed boosts in the HL1 and HL2 based games I played at 1024x768. With my 9700, I was able to run HL2 with 2xAA/4xAF. With the 6800, I was able to boost the AA/AF to 4x/8x. Bought a new monitor (Samsung Syncmaster 997DF) and started playing games at 1280x960, same AA/AF settings. There was only a mild drop in framerate. I was playing at a fairly CPU limited resolution before. My 9700 would have crashed and burned at 1280x960 4x/8x. Games look beautiful. After that, I softmodded my card. That was a nice bonus

However, i've tried for the most part, everything in here, I did the driver cleaner, got the latest drivers, pretty much if it's been said, i've tried it, now, you guys are talking about going from a 9700-9800, i'm coming from a 9600XT which, in ALL the benchmarks, is about doubled by the 6600GT, I can not find a single reason as to why my performance should be 20-30% LOWER then my 9600XT. There is no reason at all, however, one of my friend's says that it is most definately my PSU, so I went and got a new one, and even if I don't need it, i'll now have a very high quality PSU.

That sounds really odd. I upgraded from a 9600XT to the 6600GT and it absolutely destroyed the XT.. I am guessing it may be a driver conflict. I tried a driver cleaner, but it did not seem to get all the crap out, so I ended up doing a new install of XP. I have never seen a PSU cause a decrease in performance. Lockups reboots and other general instability sure, but a PSU is not going to get you more 3dmarks.

Good luck,
