6600Gt Safe Temperature

I just bought an Asus 6600GT it is going pretty well but my temperatures go up to 80C when running 3Dc.

With 3dMark2005 though it only reach 72. So my guess is it will most likely stays in these temps.

Just wanted to be sure though.

Anything under 80C load and 65 idle is acceptable, although if your ocing its not gonna go so well with those temps.

If your not ocing you'll be fine.

If you are, get the Zalman GPU cooler.

There is a really simple solution to this. I happen to have an acrylic door on the side of my case. I drilled a hole, and installed an 80mm fan directly on top of the video card. I have a Leadtek 6600GT that idles at 40C, and is at 60C under load. It is overclocked to 570/1170. If you have a case with an aluminum side panel, you can always dremel it. It is the cheapest upgrade to cool a video card, though not the most aesthetic. I can show some pictures if you are interested.

I have an antec TX1088AMG so no need to drill a hole its already here... But seems my card doesn't overclock well at all. At 550/1000 I already start seeing glitchs in textures after few minutes of 3Dc. Well seems like stock speed will be what I will have to use

Your temps should be fine.

You may find that just removing the cooler and applying a good T.I.M then remounting it more securely is enough to lower temps a good bit.
