I have a 6600GT AGP card in my system. Sometimes my computer would crash if the video card temperature becomes to hot (at around 85-90 C). I bought a small fan and put it next to the open cased computer and no crashes because the temperature would never rise about 74-76 C.

Is my card defective? or Is there anything I can do to remedy this situation, since I dont want to be running my computer with its side door open?

Does anyone have any ideas on what I could try?

I cleaned out the case as well last night, but the temperatures remained the same.

Well, the card can be warm if there is no exhaust in your pc. Taking out really warm air helps a bit by keeping your case slightly cooler.

Check to see if the video card's fan is still working.

Yeah the HS fan is still working.

I would like a solution where no money is spent or something that will invalidate my warranty.

Well, you have very few options, depending on the brand. If it is EVGA,you can attempt to adress the issue, and as long as you don't physically damage the card, you will still have warranty coverage. You'd want to check with a rep from any other brand before doing anything though. Most the 6600GTs used the reference 2 pin cooler, and it was well documented that the whimpy design often resulted in it becoming unseated. You could try just applying a bit of pressure to it and see if it'll reseat. Otherwise, you'd need to remove the cooler, clean, and apply a good T.I.M., then reseat to see if the temp issue remains.

If doing that voids coverage, or a rep won't instruct/authorize you to do it, then RMAing it is the best course. You shouldn't have to blow a fan in your case to ensure the card is stable.
