after this incident i kind of have lost my confidense in nvidia..

can someone recomend me a video card that will work well with a:

MSI RS480M2-IL Socket 939 ATI Radeon XPRESS 200 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

someone reconmended me a x800gt or x800gto .....

also which brand of the video card would be really helpfull also.

well im not a computer person but u cant buy a x800gto for that money.
u could buy a refurbished x800gto from newegg.com for 150, and if it doesnt work you can always take it back.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi...ice=150&SubCategory=48&Submit=Property

(scroll down a bit)

if your not getting that, I'd recommend an 9800pro or a 6600 gt...just get a different brand and see how that works

trust me a 6600 gt blows the x700 out of the water.

edit: i thought u meant x800gt

maybe your psu couldn't handle the video card.
its probably best for you to learn more about trouble shooting pc's before wasting more companies money rmaing everything because of pebkac

the psu is fine, it had no problems with the x700pro....its a antec 350 watt, ive heard of people with a crappier psu's running a 6600gt just fine.......I used driver cleaner, i defragged, tried 3 kinds of different drivers and 3 different games that worked fine on my onboard and x700...... i have a certificate in computer programming and webdesign and i built this computer by my self....I think i know alittle bit about trouble shooting......

If the 6600GT is giving you some problems (you are using an ATI xpress board..hmmmmm lol) then get an X1600XT. Its a good card, you can get it for 165 bux now. Personally I'd step up to a 6800GS but you might not have the money and or because of your probs with 6600GT.

thats all well and good but it does sound like a PSU issue....
let me ask you 350 watts peak or continuous power?
350 watts at 25c rated or 40c or 50c rated?
both those questions are important to know the answers too....
how many amps on ther 12v.....etc...

You probably just had a faulty unit (or it's the PSU), but whatever you do, don't pick a X1600XT... They are great, don't get me wrong, but not for today's games... Their architecture is very advanced, but they just don't perform like they should... I'd pick a 6600GT again, OR I'd wait for the next-gen 7600 and X1700 to arrive... They will be faster, and probably make prices lower a bit...

@ JEDIYoda: Sounds like a PSU issue to me too, actually...

350 watts? sounds like an sl, not exactly new or high spec. u know its possible the 6600 gt just pushes it right over the edge. certs in software don't seem to mean much. we are going by what you said you have done.

One of Antec's 350 watters should be more than enough power for a 6600GT. Still, you should consider upgrading. You can get a nice Antec or FSP for $90, which isn't that much. Anyway, back on topic. The X800GTO2 is very good for the money. Make sure it's the '2' version though; it's the one that can be flashed to X850 speeds.

Yeah, the first thing I thought of when I heard shutdowns and freezing was PSU. I'm pretty sure the 6600GT consumes more power than the X700 Pro. 350W probably don't be able to handle a current midrange A64 rig. The 450W Fortron for $50 should be just fine. I believe that Antec rates their PSUs at 30C, while Fortron rates theirs at 40C.

I know it's better, but only marginally at best (and not even in all games)... While 6600GT's can be bought for about $ 110 now, spending $ 165 on a card that's not even faster under all circumstances, just doesn't seem like a good deal to me...

well if the next card i get gives me the same problem than i'll know its on my end......but what else other graphic cards would u guys recomend ? Maybe one that consumes less energy cause i really would like to avoid buying a new psu.

this is my case, its not the best on in the world but i wouldlnt exactly call it cheap.

The 6600gt is the best card in that price range.

Are you sure its not some other part of your computer? Or your game?

My dad has had the 6600gt for quite some time and its wonderful card.

If you need something more than the 6600gt get the 6800gs. Or if you got some more money get the 7800gt.

no one' saying your case is cheap, they're saying your psu needs more wattage to handle the loads of the 6600gt. the x800gto should be a good choice for you

TO ALL OF YOU RECOMMENDING NEW PSU's: ciproxr is on a budget so any money spent on a psu means money lost for a gpu. if the budget is $150, why spend $90 or even $50 on a psu? at $100 left for a gpu, the best he can get is a 6600
