Well ATI's view is more concerned with how they're going to line their pockets...

EDIT: You could substitute ATI with most companies and this would still apply.

no one' saying your case is cheap, they're saying your psu needs more wattage to handle the loads of the 6600gt. the x800gto should be a good choice for you

TO ALL OF YOU RECOMMENDING NEW PSU's: ciproxr is on a budget so any money spent on a psu means money lost for a gpu. if the budget is $150, why spend $90 or even $50 on a psu? at $100 left for a gpu, the best he can get is a 6600

well u can't get something for nothing though. faster video card= more power generally. asking that much from an sl series psu. plus, its more expensive when your psu fails and takes your m/b and other things with it. what then? i know of sl350 because one took out my m/b once. its connectors literally welded themslves to the m/b connector. wonderful smells..

one bad 6600gt and you lose confidence in Nvidia? If anything, lose confidence in eVGA. Lots and Lots of 6600's out there with 0 problems (including mine). RMA your bad board and try again, if it doesn't work, I'm betting PSU.

the gto is faster. it's faster in everything in this review versus the 6600gt. The only oneses that it gets beat by the 6600gt is doom 3 and it wins at that when aa is turned on.

http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles/view.php?id=1711&cid=3&pg=5

this one it beats in in the above conditions but mixes in fear which kills ati cards, still it's comparable to a 6600gt, about the same fps
http://www.rage3d.com/reviews/video/hisx800gto/index.php?p=5

people recommend a 6600gt because of mob mentaility "if someone else supposedly says it's good, how can they be wrong, followed by everyone else thinks it's good, they cant al be wrong when in fact, they are basing their opininon on outdated data and prices.

? um... the x800gto came out far later than the 6600gt. ATI wanted to move some of their extra binned cores that failed to run at 16 pipes and were relegated to the 12pipe x800gtos late last year/early this year. The Nvidia purevideo requires purevideo software that costs extra from nvidia. SM3 is worthless on 6600gts, if you turn on parallax maping/HDR/Soft Shadows god help you keep those framerates playable above a 640x480 or 800x600 resolution.

I dont know about you but i;d hate to fdrop $130 on a video card and pay $30 for a video decoder that supports 5.1(the $20 package only supports 2 channel audio, the $50 package adds DTS support)

If you want a good buy with a great price point go for a 6800 Vanilla or the Leadtek 6800le, now this sounds crazy, but these cards are notrous for unlocking just make sure it has the HSI bridge chip on it. You can get a 6800 vanilla or leadtek 6800le to run really well, take a look at http://mvktech.net, they do alot of bios tweaks and such, I've seen a 6800le not unlocked score 5000 3d marks in 05 at 10x7.

I am loving my 6800GT from EVGA has 256ram.. I also would wager that you have a weak PSU.. Which needs to be upgraded..

MSI Geforce 6600GT NX6600GT-TD128E Video Card - Retail

vs

XFX Geforce 6600GT PVT43GNDF3 Video Card - Retail

I have a msi board so im thinking maybe the both would be more compatible, but on the other hand the xfx is cheaper plus i heard its a good brand....with that one i can save some money and maybe buy a new psu if i need one.

I dont think its wise to buy a new psu without being sure that its what is causing the problems, could of been just the card and if i can get away with not buying a new psu , why not.....i will order a different card try it and go from there, if i need a new psu i will go out the same day and buy one from a local store , that way if im still having the same problems i'll know its my motherboard.

I need to make a decision tonight,

im thinking of trying the 6600gt one more time, so again which one of the two 6600gts is better or which one should i go with......

im not sure if i should trust SAPPHIRE , otherwise i would get the gto, the other gto brands are too high for my budget.

I had a BFG 6600 GT, and it kept freezing and locking up my games. The problem was overheating. 6600GTs run VERY fast; faster, in fact, at least in terms of pure clock speed, then almost any other NVidia based card. This generates a whole lot of heat over a (relatively) small chip area. I had to RMA mine back to the manufacturer.

Personally i like BFG more simply because they're an American company and you can get 24/7 phone tech support. Now, let me be honest that this often means a 30-45 min wait on hold until you get to speak to someone, they don't have a hundred redundant tech support guys.

The 6600GT is a superior card to the X800GTO in my opinion, because it supports Shader Model 3.0 and HDR lighting. Now you won't be able to run many games in SM 3.0 (if any) but somehow this also effects how the card scales down to SM 2. But you WILL get to see HDR lighting used in lots of games the 6600GT can play, and you'll miss it once you lose it. The 6600 GT also has access to NVidia's special improved DVD decoding codex that the earlier 6800's don't have; although unforunately i think you have to buy this additional software from NVidia.

Sapphire makes ATI's name branded cards, so theoretically they should be the same as a Built By Ati card.

I find this hard to believe. My MSI VIVO 6600GT (which I just replaced with a X800XT) had no problems with overheating, and even overclocked to 570mhz (70mhz over stock) with no problems, and memory hit 540 as well, though I forget if my 6600GT shipped with 450 or 500mhz memory. And mine was AGP, so it had the hot PCI-e to AGP bridge as well.

BlacKJesuS i understand what your saying and i do believe you but im not much of a gamer, just everyonce and while a game comes out that i want to play , i pretty much only play age of empires.....i chose the 6600gt cause i know its a good card and plus i already have tried a evga 600gt so if i get the same problems i will know the psu is causing it , also it was less, this way if my psu really is the problem then i will have more money to buy a new one.

I have to agree with 6600GT's running pretty hot. My Gigabyte 6600GT idles at about 50C and loads up to 80C when overclocked to 575/1150. There are no artifacts though, so I'm fine.
