6600GT with Sempron 2200+?

This is regarding my old comp..

Setup :
AMD Sempron 2200+ (~1.5GHZ)
ASUS A7V400MX Mainboard (AGP)
256MB DDR1 RAM <--- This is not an issue as I'll be getting either 512MB/1GB DDR RAM

Now I'm getting a 6600GT (AGP 128MB GDDR3) to pair up with this ...
Good idea?
Can I use it to play games in medium to low settings ??
OR will the CPU in itself be a bottleneck..

I have a second PCI-E setup also, but I want to use this in another place ...

And I plan on using the AGP based rig for gaming ..

Main Question:
Does the Sempron 2200+ have enough juice to power the 6600GT...
OR
Is this thing horribly paired???

Sure, it will provide a little additional life for that old Socket A system.

Brand new games? Probably not, and especially not at, say, 1280x1024. But, if you're talking about anything that came out before Far Cry, then yeah, it will handle them with no problems.

The cpu will be a bottleneck, but not like it would be with a more powerful card.

i have an AXP 1700 and i just got myself a x850pro AGP... the stuttering i saw on HL2 is gone. it definitely helps

yeah go up the ram to at least 768mb or more.

I've got a Barton 2500+ w/ a 6600GT. I'd say that my pairing is pretty even, so yours should be too. To second sniperruff though, get more ram. I think the only reason my system has run as smoothly as it has for the past 5 years is because it's had 1GB the whole time.

Isn't that supposed to be better than a Sempron?
and the 2500+ runs at what speed? OCeD?

Architecture-wise, your CPU is also an Athlon XP. The difference is that his has the Barton core, which has twice the L2 cache, as your CPU, which has the Thoroughbred core. His stock speed is 1.83 Ghz, with 512 KB of L2 cache.

I run a 2600+ Barton at 1.9GHz coupled with a 7600 gs (512 DDR2) the reason i went DDR2 is because coupled with the architecture of my board, I didnt think I would really get all that much out of the card, the system itself would bottleneck a DDR3 vid card. I may be wrong, but it saved me some money. =)

I'm pretty sure the GeForce 7600 gs used GDDR3 - I don't think there were any choices involved, and I most certainly don't think there was any DDR of any number on it. Are you talking about something else?

My brother currently runs an A64 3200+ NewCastle, 2Gbs ram, and an XFX 6600gt... I have been impressed with that video card. it has been able to run everything we have thrown at it, oblivion, WoW, css, eve, farcry, and a bunch of others...

it has a helluva lot of hours on it, and no signs of giving out... speaking of which my brother was thinking of getting a new system, so if you would like to buy it from me i might be able to hook you up, save a little money. send me a PM..

as for the limiting factor of you system it would probally be the ram/cpu... but i think the 6600gt would be the limiting factor in my brothers system, hard call, i think its matched (and cheap)

Settings? Graphic detail to low/lowest presumably.

everything will run smoothly with those games. Oblivion can be run on medium but with no extras...get a gig of ram though, no less.

games? at very very low settings maybe, mostly its the cpu that will heavily bottleneck you. if you want to play say..counterstrike*original you will run fine.
source @ 1024x768? not so much
your brothers cpu is whats making his gt work decently. your cpu will just cripple it.

No i'm not talking about something else, i'm talking about the card thats in my computer right now. It is GDDR2 memory technology, the BOX that packages it just says DDR2 though. heres a linky
