+67% Performance for Maxtor HDD

Hey,

I just discovered a very nice driver : it's called MaxBoost ( www.maxboostbeta.com). So I tried this stuff and this is quite surprising : +35 in WinBench Business and +67% in High End. My old 10Gb Maxtor HDD just came back to life !!

hmm..yeah well...it's a cache program. too bad i just sold my old 40Gig maxtor and got a 8mb 120GB WD...and they say it doesnt work with other drives.....dumb....

A Cache program ???? I tried Cache Program before but this one is far more effiscient ! Don't know why or how they do that. Too bad it's time limited.

By the way anybody can do this thing work with non-Maxtor Drives.... ;-)

I'm not sure where you found the % increase, but I do like the guages. It shows that my 8mb cache 160gb HD actually reads 4x as fast as my 2mb cache 40gb HD.

Ok so someone give us the following numbers:

1) RAM usage after a fresh reboot when windows is fully loaded. (You're normal windows installation and disk drivers)
2) Same as #1 with this driver enabled for 1 drive.
3) Same as #1 with this driver enabled for 4 drives.
4) Same as #2 after playing some games, doing some browsing, etc... (normal usage) for 30 mins.
5) Same as #3 after playing some games, doing some browsing, etc... (normal usage) for 30 mins.

(Note: For 4 and 5 you may wanna run games in demo mode, browse the same web pages, and view the same word/excel/ppt docs)

Try it cause IT IS NOT A CACHE PROGRAM ! I can't believe it is at least. Cause this thing decrease the time of transfert on a 687Mb DivX file from one HDD to another.

Am I wrong or this file doesn't fit in 2Mo (in my old but still usefull 10G drive)

Nice find. I'm very curious on how this will affect the performance on my Maxtor HDDs. I'll try it when I get home after work.

As for you people with non-Maxtor HDDs, just try it anyways

It definitely is a cache program because you allocate memory to caching. It's only 16 mb though, so I don't think it will decrease performance in games. Hell AIM uses that much memory and I don't notice a performance decrease.

I've tried this soft a week ago (and still running) as it was metionned in another forum. It looks like the system runs better overall. Booting, starting multiple applications and playing with a lot of heavy documents performs much better. Multiple File transfers seem faster too. And the drive do not freeze anymore when heavyly used by windows. I am going to install teh Winbech perf. soft mentionned on www.maxboostbeta.com to check the perf increase numbers.

Not bad so far !

I'll give this a shot when I get home tonight. I only have one Maxtor drive in my comp, the other is a Raptor. If it'll work, I'll try it on my Raptor anyway for good measure.

From the description it looks like a caching program to me:

The MaxBoost driver intelligently caches data in the host system RAM before it is written to and read from the Maxtor disk drive, optimizing the effective storage speed of your system in a variety of applications.

I'd call it a cache program too as it appears to use the host memory...

I have a PIII running WinXP Pro. with 512MB of RAM, I tried to compare Winbenh results on my MaxtorDiamond Max with 16MB and with 32 MB.
Perf increase is :
- +10% using Winbench business with a 16MB cache
- +16% using Winbench business with a 32MB cache

In both cases, I have more than 50% perf. improvements using winbench high-end !!!

I don't know what they're doing but it looks like it's pretty efficient.

Even better : I had a very old 8GB Quantum BigFoot HDD. It gave me an amazing +220% perf. increase with Winbench business !!!
This could revive this old HDD for a while... .

Microsoft Windows 2000 or XP operating system
Intel or AMD processor, 700 MHz or higher (Dual processors not supported. Hyper-Threading must be disabled.)
256 MB RAM or higher

No RAID support? No dual CPU support? People aren't gonna gonna be happy with those two. That said, too bad my boot drive is a Raptor and my Maxtor is just for storage.

EDIT: It's a demo on top of it! After 60 days they want you to pay for it! Whatever happened to 'Let's give people a reason to be happy they bought our product?' IMO, this shoud be one of those 'value-added' things. A nice surprise that keeps you loyal, or at least happier that you bought a Maxtor.

That is pretty disappointing that Maxtor is going to expect you to pay for it after 60 days. It's like nVidia or ATI charging you for new drivers that improve performance.

OMG I can't believe how poor education is around the globe these days, I swear 75% of the population would fail basic reading comprehension tests. Not to mention the fact that people start YELLING even when they have to facts to back up what they're attempting to comprehend.

At least I won't be surprise. But if it become a value added stuff, it will be a good motivation for WD and Seagate engineers
