$68 1TB Internal Hard Drive

Saw that HITACHI Deskstar 1TB Internal Hard Drive OEM is $68 TODAY FROM 1:00PM PT to 11:59PT at newegg..

What comments do you guys have about Hitachi and this particular hard drive? At such a great price I might have to sway from western digital.

these are ok drives... i grab them when they are cheap... they are cool and quiet, but not quite as fast as the best other drives, but haven't had one fail in over a year of use... a solid deal for $69 shipped...

must be the p.m. shellshocker?

It's a two platter design. It consumes about 4w at idle and overall power consumption seems to fall somewhere in between "Performance" and "Green" drives. It performs decently, but nothing to write home about.

I have a Fry's and pay taxes locally here, so I went with NE! Pretty good deal. I went with Fry's when they had that 1TB WD Green drive for $59, which with taxes is similar to this. Not bad at all.

It is not the 7K1000.c linked in the first post. I think this is an older model, not sure.

Or maybe it is a 7k1000.c in retail packaging, i'm trying to find this out ... seems to be so from the newegg reviews so I am in for 3.

^You're right. The actual Shell Shocker deal looks to be a different model from the drive that the OP linked to, and its a retail package, like you said.

Where does one look for information on platter size/number regarding a particular model? Google doesn't seem to yield much on the subject.

The older 7k1000.b 1 tb has only 16 mb cache, the newer 7k1000.c 1tb has 32mb cache.

I installed this drive in WHS (HP EX485) and it runs cooler (31C) than WD 1TB EADS (33C). Considering that it is higher performance drive (7200rpm vs. 5400rpm) it is rather impressive. Noise level is similar to WD Green drives.

Decent performance. It's my system drive, so whatever's going on in the background makes it a bit spiky.

I got it in yesterday. Came with bad sectors. Newegg crap packaging with 1 side with no packing peanuts.

Got mine today. Retail box packaged inside of a shipping box. Win7 saw it immediately. Runs about 2-5 degrees cooler than my WD and seagate drives.
