Literally no comparison. 8800GT would run over a pair of 6800GS without even noticing a bump in the ride.

You could even get a nice performance upgrade going to an EVGA 8800GS. At newegg they're $80 after $30MIR and you may be able to use this code (EMCAJAFAD) to knock another $15 off the cost instantly making your total cost $65.

Yeah, 8800GT will still be probably twice as fast as the 6800GS SLI. Now if you're willing to spend a little more the HD4850 would be even better.

It would be better than the other options, but depending on the rest of your specs it could be over kill. the 4850 seems to be the sweet spot right now for price/performance ratio.

You need a killer CPU (read Core2Quad @ 3GHz) to utilize the power of an HD4870 so I would go with the HD4850. 6800GS in SLi? *Coughs* lol

"the 8800GT would pull down the 2 6800s pants, tell everyone to look, kick them in the nads, laugh as they both twitch in pain, and finally spit on them."

Actually even a 9600GT will do same. For the price I paid which was around $70.00 after using a gift cert, I was floored at the performance of the card. I thought I might be like 25% slower than the 8800GT. Nope, about 7% at best.

To be honest, anything from the X1800XT 256MB upward would wipe the floor with SLi 6800GS's. See here

SLI never really made sense to anyone, save those who want performance that otherwise could not be acheived with a single card. The plan was always to buy one card now at the high price, then when the new ones came out to buy the old one at a low price to get the same performance. The trouble was, they always stopped making the old cards before the new ones came out...leaving the old cards price somewhat high still. And then the new card was as fast as the old ones in SLI, minus all the potential driver headaches and plus any new features. So in the end, you just sold the old card and bought a new one like you always did.
