Not quite. They still had 7 EVGA 6800 Ultras when I showed up in Cambridge, MA, for $440.

I was so fed up deal-hunting, now it's 6...

MartinCracauer - i thought you were after the 6800GT. I couldn't fathom spending that much on an Ultra. Sorry to get your panties in a twist. I'm glad you got the Ultra - at least someone is buying those things. I couldn't stand looking at them anymore. Just as a clarification: there are no more 6800GTs at Microcenter in Cambridge, but I there are still 6 6800 Ultras, and a bunch of 6600GTs, 6600s, PCI-e and AGP. all under eVGA.

is it still onsale? i'm wanting to pickup a 6600 pcie by evga but i'm not sure if the 20% applies to them. Can we order online and get the same deal since it's a nationwide deal?

The Ultra I bought is not on the website anymore either, or at least it wasn't when I last looked.

I didn't see anything 6x00 AGP other than the Ultra in Cambridge.

I suppose if it's not on the website you can still call Cambridge, MA Microcenter and ask them whether they'll send you one. I am sure they do, they sit on 6 cards worth $440, shows don't like doing that longer than needed.

If you go in-shop be aware that the expensive cards are not on the shelfes, they are behind glass in guarded counters. Watch out for the Dobermans.

The reason why I ended up spending $100 more than I wanted (wanted GT) is that I am losing too much time deal-hunting, at some point it becomes destructive. Now the issue is done. Except I need a silencer Gotta wait for the Zalmann part, though, I didn't like my NV silencer 3.

If you can wait a few weeks or so, the ATI X800XL's will outperform the 6800GT's (from AnandTechs own reviews) and the street price will be $299. The GT prices will drop further.

Of course, all this is based on if they are available in mass quantity....

MartinCracauer - it's always better to find a solution than wrecking yourself trying to find what you really want. screw saving money, time is more important. i think Reiniku is right about the x800xl only being for PCI-Express - I haven't seen any info about it being available for AGP. Besides, I've had ATi, so I was willing to give nVidia a chance.

Well, since I got the Ultra for a regular GT price now I have to say I don't regret it. It's pretty easy to see even the ultra's limits in Doom3, I can't just rip open everything, some balancing of resolution and AA/AF has to be.

It comes back to the common wisdom of this forum: buy the best friggin video card you can afford, especially if you don't upgrade often. It hurts but you don't regret it. And who needs a car anyway? It's not that Boston is cold or so these days. Nothing a warm soup from the homeless shelter couldn't fix.

The only problem is that my PCI slot next to the AGP is permanently gone now and won't come back. Waiting for the Zalman fan for this card to shut it up some more, although it's better than my 5900XT was with the original cooling.

ATI is out for me so that wasn't an option either way.

When will AGP video cards come out to the public that can handle games like this with ALL the eye candy on and high-res?

basically smokes any 6600GT with ease... best bang for the buck IMO

The deal is NOT over, it's been extended through the end of the month, as normal. "New" ads came out on Monday ... same ad as before, just different sales dates.

And yes, they are getting more eVGA cards (after saying they thought they wouldn't). Neither of our two stores displays them though, the salesmen have to go back to the stockroom to get them (coincidentally, their sales reps recently went back on the commission system). At the Bethel Rd. store, ask for Nate ... he's a good guy and will hook you up if they have any left.

Still no highend ATI-based cards coming back in stock yet.

yea with tax it gets to about ~$340's. so i'm still not sure exactly how good a deal that is..but anyways. How well do these evga 6800gt's overclock? So far I can only go 435mhz vore & 1180mhz memory.

I was at the Micro Center in Dallas yesterday and they said they have the 6800, GT and Ultra all in stock. The GT is still $319. Just as a side note. I drove over an hour to get to Fry's and Micro Center thinking I was going to find some deals, but the whole damn day was a waste. They were all sold out on their better board/cpu combos and the 20% off all motherboards deal at Micro Center was a waste since most of their boards are outdated crap.

Just great...no 6800's or x800's on their website during the sale period (to 1/30). Day after the sale, and BAM, all the cards are back in stock. Damn that sucks...
