I got a brand new 6800 GT OC, installed it today. I upgraded from a 9800 Pro I know ATI beats this card pretty well at Half Life 2, but i was testing out Counter Strike Source, and i actually had to turn DOWN the settings to be able to keep the fps above 60, and it still dips below 60 pretty often. I know it was the same quality settings and stuff as well.

I also ran 3dmark 2001, even though it's old, and my old 9800 Pro got more points in 3dmark 2001 than my 6800 GT OC did. Does all that sound normal?

I ran 3dmark 03 and about doubled my 9800 Pros points there, so i guess not everything is bad. Anything i should check out?

Looks like the temps are ok, GPU core is 60C and ambient is 44c, does that sound good?

Temps are fine. I believe 3d Mark 01 is not GPU dependent, it has alot to do with the CPU, unlike 03 and 05. There is no way the 9800pro would perform better then the 6800GT. I am able to play games at full eye candy with mine. What res are you running at?

even with 03, it is becoming cpu dependant with the gpu power you are dealing with. if you want ot run accurate 3dmark03 tests, run 4xaa, 8x af highest resolution.

edit: btwm why do you only have 512mb ram on a gaming machine? seems like it's holding you back.

That would definitely strike me as a little odd lol. If you used the drivers that came with it, I would advise downloading the newest Forceware drivers. Sometimes they fix wierd little quirks like that, especially if that card was boxed several driver versions ago.

Hrm, this probably belongs in the games forum now that i know more. The card seems just how it should be for everything else except CSS. I am definitely getting equal to or less performance that i was when playing CSS with my radeon 9800 Pro, so it's probably an issue with the game, hopefully something fixable.

6800 is pure DirectX 9......9800 isnt

when you play CS:S Steam should recognise which DirectX you are suited to and run the appropriate visual effects etc that are not optionable (if thats a word), so an old 9800 card can still get the same framerates as a modern 6800, but not look as good......certainly if you turn on AA you should notice a big difference between the two cards.....

I would try many things like, Drivers cleaners, new drivers, format and reinstall xp to see if some part of your software is hosed, check your clock and memory settings.

First thing you should do is download drivercleaner and run it exactly according to the instructions. You may still have leftover bits of ATI drivers causing some kind of conflict. You should also clean out your current Nvidia drivers and install the latest official drivers. If the problem exists after that, than it is just a problem with specific programs.

I dunno, i ran driver cleaner before i installed, and i got the latest drivers from nvidia. CSS runs in DirectX9 as it always did, using the same exact settings, it's still performs equal to or less than my 9800 Pro did, just in that game though. Really seems like i should be getting more FPS

CSS runs a little laggy for 6xxx series cards. ATi cards run the game much better, which is somewhat sad.

I don't know what to tell you exactly, especially since you didn't list what the settings you were running before, vs. now. It might have turned up AA on you by default, because it knows the card can handle it.
