Then the PS also have these short cables that I basically couldn't even use in my Lian-Li V1000 case. Oh well I didn't buy the bundle for the PS I bought it so I could get the card and I figured "Hey, maybe, just maybe the PS will be worth $100."

<sigh>

I ended up using a 20pin Antec 430W Truepower from my current system until I can decide on a better one for SLI.

I noticed a couple folks here bought the 2 pack. I bought the single. How was your experience with your PS included in the bundle?

I forgot to mention that it looked like the PS was dropped before it was packed at BFG! One of screw tabs was bent and folded inwards.

Doesn't it have 2 rails - each with 15 amps?

If it does it didn't specify on the sticker on the side. All it stated was 12v 15a.

Great deal for fools who are loaded. Why can't they just release the damn cards in singles at MSRP?

People could team up and split the bundle. The person who paid up front gets it shipped to them, and the the other person pays for their share plus the extra costs of shipping their share.

If you're going to do it, move fast. These sold out in 3 hours last time. My notification email has a 1:09 PST time stamp. That means you have about two hours and you still might end up on back order.

To those who are buying: Good Luck!

What are you going to do, draw straws for who has to take the piece of chit PSU?

Monarch just jumped their price from $474 to $499. I swear they are the biggest price bastards.

BTW, Andrew from Chumbo, thanks for the heads up email this time. It is appreciated.

Even though the PSU is crap, it is still the cheapest way to get two of these cards. Now that Monarch has jumped up, MPCParts is the lowest on a single card at $475. So the Chumbo deal is $100 cheaper and the PSU is free.

Dual 12V rails for maximum power and stability - I don't think so Tim!

Max 18A per rail, but that doesnt mean 18A + 18A = 36A its still only 18A

You are much better off with a single rail that can do 28A on its own

BFG are pulling a fast one to get rid of the crap power supplies.

If single rail is the way to go then why are MAJOR enthusiast vendors like Falcon Northwest and others using dual rail PSUs in their SLI systems? I would think these vendors would not want a lot of RMA's or tech calls because they didn't plan on supplying enough power in their systems. Those systems also rarely have ONE HD or ONE optical drive, they are usually LOADED. Also it seems that every PS that I've seen that is stamped SLI or geared for SLI is a dual rail 12v.

I agree on the BFG pulling a fast one....this thing looks like a POS PSU that I got with the single card bundle. The cables are so short I can't even use it anyhow. Sticking with my Truepower 430W until I get a second, then I think I'm getting that Thermaltake Purepower 680W. It looks very good and will work well for my case which is a Lian-Li V1000 that mounts the PS in the bottom. I like the way the Thermaltake has the fans positioned. It will work well along with it's specs. I will wait for more reviews before I drop the cash down on it.

You should add this to the list http://www.chumbo.com/Info.aspx?id=244958 Comes with a 530 watt forton psu and 2 pcie 6800 gt's for $849. I recently just bought a X850 XT PE for $480, but when I saw this deal I couldnt pass it up. Ill probably ebay the Radeon for $700-$800 so basically this upgrade is costing me barely anything lol.

To create a high current power rail you need to use components that can handle the extra current, which means a more expensive powersupply.

Power = Voltage x Current (P=VA)

12V x 18A = 216Watts

Off one 12V rail at 18A's you could power one AMD CPU @ 89W and One Graphics Card @ 110W and maybe one hard drive before you hit the 18A limit.

I'm wondering on these Dual rail power supplies do they label each connector which rail it comes from? it would be very easy to overload one rail by adding an extra hard drive or CD Rom.

12V x 28A = 336Watts enough to power your CPU and Graphics card with plenty left over for disks etc.

This is a simplified view, in the real world the 3.3V and 5V rails also play a part in powering the mainboard, memory and vairous other bits and pieces.

With a Dual Rail PSU you would have to try and balance out the distribution of power from each rail as not to exceed the 18A's on either of them. (hence are they labeled)

With a Single Rail you can just plug everything in as long as you know your not going to exceed the current limit of your PSU.

Another point is if you are running close to the 18A limit at idle when you load up the CPU and GFX card you could easily go over 18Amps and experiance instability.

No, you can SLI 6600 GTs. But the performance of the 2 6600 GTs SLIed is about the same as one 6800 GT. Two 6600 GTs are going to run you $400 to $430 depending on the exact card. One 6800 GT is going to run around $475. It would seem to make more sense to buy just one 6800 GT now and then add another when the price comes down, as opposed to trying to get rid of two 6600 GTs later. BTW, it doesn't get covered much but plain 6800s can do the SLI dance. AFAIK, plain 6600s can not.

we just dropped it to $485. FYI our vendors are charging us more than originally quoted..
pretty bad when they raise prices on what you had back-ordered. of course they claim EGVA and others are doing it to them...

i havent seen it this bad since the original Geforce 256 came out 5-6 yrs ago.

Well it's nice to see the vendors themselves coming here to comment. We have had Chumbo and ADK both here commenting on having problems getting the cards... "fairly"

Chumbo: Being forced to sell their cards as bundles.
ADK: Prices being raised on something that was backordered. I would be furious.

How long will this go on I wonder. Video card shortages, video game shortages (WoW LOL) what next?

Gasoline?

What really gets me is that it's been a long enough time for the Manufacturers to get a supply of these things out and we are all stuck chasing down cards from vendors who only have the XFX or eVGA models out.

I would love to get and ASUS or Gigabyte or heck, even an Leadtek, for a reasonable price.

As far as the Web sellers watching this thread, they are probably in collusion setting their prices up and this site helps them see what everyone else is doing quickly.
