Bad news fellas.

The 6800 gt pci express overclocked from BFGTECH that I ordered may have to be RMAed :'( !!!
I reported (more like showed off) a few pages back on this thread how lucky I was to have ordered it.

Its supposed to be overclocked by default to a core clock of 370 mhz as opposed to the standard 350mhz. Ok well I am running the new nvidia beta drivers release 65 of forceware version 67.66 dated jan 18th 2005.
But I dunno if that gonna be it.

Let me not go further cause this thread bout prices and availability. But take this as a warning....in their rush to get these cards to market there are going to be a few bad batches here and there. So watch out.

I gonna put a variation of this post on the tech help forums here...maybe someone can help.

p.s. I got this from www.isquaredinc.com. They already out of stock and have raised the price from $475 to $550.

Got in on the BFG GT from monarch for 425.

BTW thanks alot for compiling this info Mr. Nobody, I've been in the market for a new pc and have been following your thread for quite awhile.

Also adding in my observations, it seems as if Monarch Computers will have their video cards dip in price (at least the evga and BFG GTs) at around 10-11pm EST every few days. I was watching it last night, the prices for both the evga and bfg went down to 435, then 1 hr later the evga went back up but the bfg went down to 425.

Oh yeah, Monarch Computers has a 10% off coupon if you spend $800 or more and use an AMEX card. Great for those people looking to run SLI immediately or building new system. Credit goes to walletLess at Fatwallet.

It appears that Monarch lowers prices in general during week-ends and holidays, but I did not expect such price dips during night time! Thanks for the info

EDIT:

BFG GeForce 6800 GT OC
Price: $434.00

at Monarch right now, not bad

ZZF has the BFG 6800ULTRA OC PCI-E in stock for $599

Above MSRP but still a rare find for an excellent card (I have not seen this card anywhere)

Any of you guys heard of CompuHQ? They've got the retail eVGA 6800 PCI-E in stock for $458. They don't have any store ratings at BizRate, CNet, PriceGrabber, etc...

Which one to buy? I ordered a SLI board but am only going to run one vid card for now so the SLI is not a factor. I understand the ATI doesn't have Shader Model 3??

BFG 6800 Ultra PCI Express or XFX 6800 Ultra PCI Express or Sapphire X850 XT Platinum.

Wow...good thing you aren't going with SLI right now - if you needed TWO of those vid cards, you might need to sell your house!

From what I've read on these forums it's best to stay away from XFX, so I'd say your choice is probably between the BFG nVidia card or the Sapphire ATI card. I can't imagine you going wrong with either one of them. Or you could save $200 and pick up a 6800GT....that's what I'm holding out for.

There's a big update today since I've been slacking off. Seems like cards are finally available everywhere and getting closer to MSRP. Good news to hear.

I just picked up my eVGA from NewEgg...it's been in consistently in stock for over a week now and the price seems to be holding steady at $429. Still a bit spendy, but I'm glad I didn't buy one on eBay for $480 a couple weeks ago!

Looks like this one hasn't been updated since February. You might as well go ahead and start a new one if you want to.
