I currently have a 6800 GT and want to OC it. To get more voltage do I have to flash to the Ultra bios or is there another way to raise the voltage.

Thanks in advance

I believe you can adjust voltage to things like the CPU, RAM, and GPU, directly from your system BIOS, depending on which chipset you have, I would do some research before upping the voltage however, because I could see some problems arise if not done correctly, or not in the right amounts.

Sorry to make you move the post...just didn't want you to get flamed. I think with the DFI board there is a place in the BIOS (Genie section) where you can change AGP voltage.

Don't raise the agp voltage
leave it at 1.5

Here is how you up your voltage to give your gt ultra performance.

Go download nvflash 4.42 or better
these commands are for v4.42:

make a bootable dos disk if you use xp, win98 works well for this,
put nvflash.exe and cwsdpmi.exe on to the floppy

boot from the disk and save you current bios with
command: "nvflash -b backup.rom"
this saves your origninal bios as "backup.rom", store it in a safe place

you have 2 choices:
1) flash with a different bios, such as an ultra
or
2)edit your own bios
(which I did and I believe it ensures better compadibility)

to flash with a different bios which you have renamed "newbios"
command : "nvflash -f newbios.rom -p -u -2"

to edit your own bios return to windows and use
OmniExtremeEdit FX v1.2 to edit your own bios.
set your voltages to what you want, some set 2d and 3d the same
I just upped my 3d voltage by .1v don't get greedy here.. it could hurt

then save this file as whatever

reboot with your disk and flash the card with the above flash command using your new file name

return to windows and see what your autodetect displays as your new max speed

run 3dmark03, 05 to see your improvement and to ensure stability at those speeds

note: your memory will probaly max around 1150-1200 don't puch it too hard, the core speed increase makes much more diff

once you find the max settings for core and mem, back them down a bit
my max with 1.4v and NV5 is 433/1150
I run at 425/1100
consider alternative cooling to chill your new beast such as an NV5
just installing one upped my max core by another 8 mhz

lets us know how it worked

sorry for cross post

and remember, you flash at your own risk, responsibility be not mine or anyone elses

Ironmanstl thanks for taking the time to make that post.
I have a couple of questions

1. What are the odds or screwing up my card by flashing
2. What would the performance gain be of overclocking to say 415/1100 over stock
3. How reliable is coolbits for overclocking. Would Rivatuner be better

Thanks for all the help

1) many people have good success, a few don't,
ensure you keep your card cool

2)you will gain a few fps in games, not a lrg margin
I did it because I wanted to run at ultra extreme speeds

3) either will work, riva has more tweaks

do some reading in the links I gave you
lotsa info there
