if it sells for $249 then its not worth it since x850xt / x800xl can be bought for $250ish and the reduce speed ... nvidia showing how much they care about the 70% of the video market agp :disgust:

The main reason will be the 4-pipe disadvantage that will NOT be unlockable (AGP or PCI-E).

You're wrong regarding the AGP version of the 6800GS. Mine arrived a few days ago. I overclocked it up to the PCIe speeds (i.e. from 350 to 425) then I unlocked the 4 pipes, taking it from 12 to 16 (the pipes you said were physically cut).

I had the following 3DMArk scores.

my old card 9800pro = 2829
6800GS@350 = 4261
6800GS@425 = 5000
6800GS@425 with 4 pipes unlocked = 5590

Looks like the AGP version DOES have the disabled 4 pipes, that can be enabled.

What sort of proof do you want? I can send you a photo of the card in my PC, and screen grabs of RivaTuner showing the 4 enabled pipes, I could also do a screen grab of the 3DMark results. Let me know what you want and I'll see what I can do.

I was only reporting what I had read... I had read there would be no unlockable features because NVidia wasn't quite happy what was happening with the 6800NU.

If you can unlock an AGP 6800GS, more power to you... of course, the card still isn't faster then a 6800GT... it's just cheaper!

P.S.
Where did you get your AGP 6800GS from? I'm sure a lot of folks would like to know!

Wow, everyone knows for sure until someone actually proves them wrong. I have a 6800GS PCIe on the way, how did you unlock the pipes? Was it patching the driver, or somehing more involved? I do know that the PCIe version in the nv42 core, so will it be unlockable?

I'm pretty sure it is faster than a GT, my GS is clocked at 425MHz/1.1Ghz, and has 16 pipes. A GT is clocked at 350/1.0.

XFX is working hard to bring you one of the first Geforce 6800 GS AGP units on the market. This card is clocked at 400MHz core, 1100MHz memory, an important 50 MHz faster than the recently announced Albatron card. Memory wise the card is 100MHz faster than Nvidia's recommended speed.

i guess theInq is wrong - again . . . they have the XFX GS cloxked at 400Mhz . . . actually it is the SAME as the Albatron - 350Mhz.

I'd like to know what his memory is clocked at.

And at 5500 3dmarks, that's identical to my old stock X800XL. For $250.00? Not worth it.

Well, it is worth it for me, I'm only running a AMD 2600 CPU (333fsb). And I have a Shuttle SN41G2, so I had to have a card that only took up one slot.

The blurb on the website i bought the card from did say it was clocked 75MHx faster than stock, I noticed now that they have removed this claim. When it arrived it was clocked at standard speeds, i.e 350MHz and 1.0GHz

My card is currently running at 425Mhz wiht memory at 1.1GHz.

Wow thats cool they are finally starting to appear. You are going to cause quite a stir with the unlockable pipes- people are going to be jumping all over this card if thats the case.

A mate of mine has a very similar spec pc to mine, but he's running a AMD 2800 with a 400MHz fsb. His original 3DMark score was about 100 points ahead of mine. He was also running a 9800pro. When i bought my GS he got a 850XT. His 3Dmark score is now 200 points ahead of mine. Personally I think the GS is a good purchase if you want to squeeze some more life out of an AGP system. Especially as you can gain a lot by simply overclocking and unlocking the pipes. If you want a card that only takes up a single slot then it's the best AGP card you can buy. By the way, it runs quite cool, hardly reaching the mid 40°C's, it also runs with no probs with my 250W PSU.

Ouch.

So for $283 US dollors, he bought a 350MHz N40 chipset card with 12-pipes. You can get the same card with 16-pipes for the same price here in the US (it's called a 6800GT), or for cheaper if you get one off of E-Bay.

He then overclocked the card, but you can do the same thing with a 6800GT. He paid the same price to get a same-speed/lower-piped GS, which he then unlocked to get a 6800GT.

Has anyone seen the AGP version of the 6800GS stateside yet... for sale? Buying this in the UK is no bargain at all... in fact, compared to the States, he just got ripped off and had to overclock it/unlock it to get where he would have been if he simply bought a 6800GT to begin with.

The only confirmed owner of an AGP 6800GS has reported a 350MHz clocked card with 12-pipes that are unlockable for 6800GT prices (despite reports that the card was shipped at a faster speed, which it was not). Still waiting for NVidia to impress us with the AGP 6800GS.

Well, from what i understand they don't make the GT anymore. But I guess I could have bought one 2nd hand from the US. That sounds much simpler than buying from a UK supplier and getting next day delivery

Here's the facts, it's the fasted AGP card that would fit in my Shuttle. If you're suggesting I would have been better off buying 2nd hand then I just think you're wrong. For the sake of saving a few quid I think I made the right choice.

I'm not saying anything about your situation... if you read my post you would see I mentioned HERE IN THE US THAT'S NO BARGAIN.

You're not living in the US, so obviously what I said doesn't apply to you. There's tons of Americans waiting for this card... yes, the GT is not being manufactured anymore, but they are still available both retail for the same price you paid or cheaper 2nd-hand... IN THE US... you're not in the US, so what I'm talking about isn't about you. I'm simply saying if the European market is an indicator of what we can expect to see here in the US, this card is NOT a bargain since here in America, we can still get a GT for the SAME PRICE you paid RETAIL, or we can get it for cheaper 2nd-hand.

Unless the AGP GS sells for a good amount cheaper in the US, this card isn't a bargain (but we've seen no state-side prices, so we're still guessing).

UK prices are always higher for similar based items. If you want a better comparison, you should compare the prices of other cards from the UK to US prices to get a better understanding.

I bet the 6800GS will run for a similar price point but I don't think it will be $250, I would think around $230 or less.
