Great News!!! You have yourself an Awesome card!!!

Mine will be here next Mon/Tues. I can hardly wait. It will be the last part of the machine I put together this week. I will post the results of testing when it arrives for the board. It is a Chaintech VNF-3 250 with a mobile athlon 64 (754) @ 2.35 GHz and 2 Gigs of pc 4000 OC'd Ram. Going to burn it in there until the new Vid Card arrives. as a comparison with the "other" $200 AGP video card the x850xt . . . i had to do a million installs and uninstalls of the new Cats today to get it right . . . and HATED running 3DMark05 over-and-over . . . but ANYway . .

my x850xt scored 6104 stock [520/1040] and Overdrive O/C'd [550/1140] - 6487

reread the post above . . . a $200 after mir x850xt that plays at [almost] PE speeds .. . . well, the core is higher, but i trusted that ATi tool and forgot to try and O/C the vRAM further . . . not tonight i can't bear to run 3DMark05 another time [although it isn't a slideshow]

. . . since i personally consider the 9800xt to be a "sufficient" video card for modern games [ahead of the 6600-256 and behind the 6600GT], the x800p is fine unless you are trying to run at high resolutions.

i really don't think SM3.0 is gonna make much difference for another year or two.


edit: i would definitely have gotten the 6800GS if i didn't already jump on my x850xt , , , and now i'm off to overclock the vRAM

Muhahahahahahahaha, FINALLY something worthy to replace my aging 9800 Pro 128. Ordered one yesterday from ZZF since the egg was out of the XFX card. I also noticed that the XFX 6800 GS AGP has what appears to be completely redesigned power circuit comparing it to the EVGA 6800 GS AGP photos on the egg website. This new design card may be why the XFX card overclocks so well. Checked ZZF today and the show the card "packed" so I should get it Tuesday or Wednesday. Gonna have some fun with Rivatuner and Coolbits next weekend and find out how far my $220.00 GS/GT?/Ultra?? is going to overclock.

I have a question regarding the best overclocking tool to use. When my xfx 6800GS first arrived I used the coolbits .reg hack to overclock the card. And it worked well. Then I installed RivaTuner to unlock it, and that worked fine, but I could no longer change the clock settings, it kept saying the driver was incompatible, and the test would fail (even if I was turing the clock down!). Is there a compatiblity issue between Coolbits and RivaTuner?

Have always been afraid of OCing my 6600GT specially because I think(personal speculation) it's clocked down to prevent the HSI bridge from melting. Plus it already runs at 72 deg under load.

Joincamp could you run the FEAR test at 1280x1024 please (provided screen supports it)?
I wouldn't mind seeing how chronicles of ridick runs when you turn on the smooth shadows it killed my 6600GT when I tried the Demo.

the question I'd like to ask XFX is why are they releasing a card that can comfortably run 20% faster. They only thing I can think is that nvidia are asking companies to make the PCIe versions look quicker. Perhaps they hope everyone will rush out and but new motherboard, CPU, ram etc.

wow, that's weird. FEAR wont do 1280x1024 but it will do 1600x1200. only game ive ever seen do that. oddly enough, i have the option for 1280x960

Dockarl, you have to remember, these are the SAME CHIPSETS that have been around for quite some time, including the GeForce 6800U and 6800GT... the GT was clocked at the exact same speed, and the GT was out long before there was any kind of "marketing conspiracy" to get everyone to buy PCI-E.

I can assure all the conspiracy theorists that there is not some grand scheme to get everyone to buy PCI-E by releasing the 6800GS at 350MHz clock. Simple fact is, these are the same chips they've been selling for a long time, it's not a mystery, and the lower the clock setting, the "safer" it is for the company to warranty the card because the card is not operating at or near the red-line of it's limits. The candle that burns twice as bright lasts half as long. That's what companies think about when offering warranties. 6800U's (built on the SAME chipset) had tons of quality control (expensive chip selection process) procedures to ensure the chips would last long-term at such speeds... it's a lot easier to release the same chip and only garauntee 350MHz.

It's no conspiracy to get people to buy PCI-E... it's all simple economics.
