one question....on Rivatuner before you "unlocked" the extra pipes, did it show as a 6800GS(A1,12x1,5vp)?, i notice it shows as a 6800gt(A1,16x1,6vp), which would make sense, since being "unlocked" it would have the same specs.

YES IT UNLOCKS!

might get this now...but maybe better versions w/ higher clocks will come out soon...or who knows, maybe a 7800 series in AGP.

I'm thinking about getting this card too. What is involved in unlocking the pipes? I'll probably wait to see if a few more people can unlock theirs too.

yes...unlocking the extra pipes can cause artifacts, video corruption(ex. 6800nu),many who bought the 6800nu agp, were successful in unlocking the pipes but the extra pipes were "damaged" causing artifacts.

Even though there were artifacts, CKXP forgot to mention that you CAN soft mod it back to the origan spec. Just remember which quad you unlocked, then lock it again. In most cases you can atleast unlock the shader...enjoy!

PS. Will you still have the artifacts after chaging it back? No!

Thanks for the info!!! I think I'll wait to see if most people can unlock the pipes without any problems

I also wanted to ask if you guys thought the 6800gs would be better than the x850 pro. I figured the 6800gs would be better if you could unlock the pipes but if not then the x850 pro would be because of the higher clock speed. Am I right or wrong?

Am I the only person who noticed that picture provided of Riva Tuner is clearly showing a 6800GT, not a GS?!?!

If Riva Tuner is miss-identifying the card somehow, how about showing official NVidia drivers somewhere in the screenshot that clearly shows "6800GS". I can unlock all 16 pipes on my 6800GT too!

Edit;
Then again, the "Hardware Masked" bit seems to say something too that wouldn't be on a GT? Just making sure it's a GS!

I saw on many of the evga and xfx forums regarding the 6800gs showing the card as a 6800gt for some reason... due to being old firmware or something like that. Well anyways does softmoding from 12 to 16 void the warrenty. and if the 4 pixel shaders were bad can we soft mod it back and not let them know.

They (nVIDIA) are the one's who soft modded it in the first place. They test them and if it doesn't pass thier standards, they disable one quad of pipes. That being said, I don't think there is any way they can know. Actually I'm 99.99% sure they can't.

i noticed that to at first, but look at the drivers helto is using 81.89, only the newer forceware drivers 82.12 offical support the 6800gs agp 82.12 also look at the default configuration on the custom graphics processor configuration. Def:00001f0b(A1,12x1,5vp) =6800gs image

Do you have to be so scepticle about everything? I mean this is atleast the second on Anandtech that has claimed to have unlocked, and it seems that both times you don't wanna believe it.

I too was a bit scepticle when I saw the 'GT' statement, but another pointed out that default pipes and shaders were set at 15/5. That made it pretty obvious to me.

If I had the money, I would buy one. If I had a camera, I would take pics. And after that giive screen shots. Whatever it takes to prove to you that it does unlock. Oh , and I'm waiting for that other "White Elephant" to show up. When it does....be prepared to eat your words. Yes I want you to literally print it out, ball it up, chew it up...and swallow

Thanks for the confirmation on the unlocking  Tried overclocking the core yet? We just need overclocking and benchmark results now. Damned nice if it turns out to be 6800U performance or better, and maybe Wolfy will STFU

yay for tomorrow, can't wait to pop 'er in. I'll try some benchmarking to give you guys and idea of what increase I get if it does unlock. Maybe some before/after 3DMark? stock/unlocked/unlocked and overclocked results. I have a bunch of new games too, so I can give you benchmark results of stuff too. Gimme a request list and I'll try to fufill it. Keep in mind that the results will probably be CPU limited since I only have an Athlon XP 2800 (OC'd to 3200). But, even if my games don't perform as well as the same card on a newer system, the before/after results should give a clue to the speed increases.

Send in your requests.
