ok, well, i seem to have fixed my overclocking problem. Rivatuner wouldnt take any of the changes i made, telling me that the settings failed the test. However in rivatuner, under the power user section, you can turn off the tests that it runs on the card before applying the new clock speed and memory settings. So, as of now, i have my card running at 400/1100 @ 60c under load. I dont have a copy of 3dmark05 yet, but from the first couple of tests i started to run late last night, 3dmark06 is a beast.

My Rig:
P4 3.0HT 1mb L2
Asus p4g800-v
4gb DDR400 Dual Channel
BFG 6800GS 256GDDR3
Soundblaster Audigy
Intel Pro 1000mt nic
Seagate 80gb 7200
WD 200gb 7200
16x DVDRW
56x CDROM
Acer 19" 8ms LCD
Logitech G15 Keyboard & MX518 Mouse

All packed very neatly in an emachines d4362 case...that sounds funny i know, but i like the case and i get a kick out of it. (nothing inside the case is stock except the cd/dvdrw drives...)

Its just that bfg says a min 18 amps and I have been wondering if mine which has 17 amps would cut it. I imagine you would have already seen problems if it was going to cause any esp after benchmarking.

I'd just like to update my progress with the BFG 6800 GS. Got it unlocked last night and it runs like a charm. Put a Zalman VF700-Cu on it a few hours ago and it dropped the idle temps from about 60c to 49c, and once the thermal paste cures I'm sure it will drop a few more. Only thing I need to do now is OC it, but RivaTuner won't let me do it. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

First scores are my MSI 9800pro for comparison, BFG 6800gs@default in brackets, 6800gs@16p6v

3DMark06: 763 (2100) 2429
3DMark05: 2395 (4511) 5132
3DMark03: 6214 (10720) 11912
AquaMark3: (59,096) 61,895

i had the same problem last night...in riva tuner youll want to go to the power user tab, go down to "Overclocking\Global" and turn on the "DisableClockTest" That should allow you to overclock without having to test the settings first.

Also, what driver version are you running?

that should do it...you may want to run the hardware monitor built into rivatuner, leave it open in the background, and run a game to see if the settings stuck.

i just had a thought though...theres a drop down menu on the page where you change the clock settings...did you click on the one that says 3d performance?
Also, there is a little box there in the middle labelled "startup settings" did you check the box to apply settings at startup and click save? I think that may force you to reboot and if it doesnt, i would probably do it anyways...

thanks for the help chris but I just can't seem to get the "Disable Clock Test" to apply, clicked on 3d performance, tried startup settings, still nothing. Let me know if you think of something else, and thanks again for the info.

From my understanding (reading other posts about it) using rivatuner for overclocking is not recommended as much as coolbits is for nVidia cards. I recommend you use coolbits for overclocking as I have stated before. Will someone in the forums back me up on this please?

oooooooooh....no no no i got it...when youre in the power user section, right-click on the disableclocktest, and click the yellow lightbulb...then try to overclock again...

If it will make everyone else happy, try going to the driver settings page and do the overclock from there...and as i said earlier, rivatuner enables coolbits in oder to do overclocking...and, if someone has different info from that, then i would be happy to be proved wrong...

I would be happy to be proven wrong myself. I see it as a learning experience for one of us anyways. Nothing about being SUPREME E-PENIS or anything.
