Yes

when you do that, does it allow you to test the setting befors you apply them?
if i try to overclock just from coolbits, it will not allow me to do so, saying that the settings have failed... would you mind telling me what you did?

Well, be sure first you have the latest BETA drivers (82.xx); they're the only ones that support the 6800 GS. I honestly don't know what version BFG included on their CD, but it's only a 20+ mb file to download.

I didn't bother trying to overclock it myself. In fact, when i tried to overclock it in RivaTuner, the pipes would reset back to 12/5. But i could use the pipes at 16/6 as long as i didn't try overclocking.

When i got coolbits, i simply installed it and then clicked on the "detect optimal frequencies" in the Nvidia tab. That's it! Everything has been working fine ever since then (and actually running a degree cooler today).

If it will make everyone else happy, try going to the driver settings page and do the overclock from there...and as i said earlier, rivatuner enables coolbits in oder to do overclocking...and, if someone has different info from that, then i would be happy to be proved wrong...

I would be happy to be proven wrong myself. I see it as a learning experience for one of us anyways. Nothing about being SUPREME E-PENIS or anything.

wait wait wait....i think i just proved my own point while trying to figure something else out...

coolbits is nothing but a reg hack that enables hidden parts of the nvidia driver architecture...that being said, if you install coolbits you get all this cool new stuff on the driver settings page; one those things being "clock frequency settings"...
if you install rivatuner, enable overclocking, then go the the driver settings page, the "clock frequency settings" option is there...just like it is when you use coolbits...

ive tried it both ways actually: installing coolbits first and then rivatuner, and installing rivatuner first and then coolbits...works the same either way...if you do coolbits first it enables it in rivatuner and if you do coolbits first the opposite is true...

I should be getting my BFG card tomorrow. I also ordered the Zalman VF700 fan. I have a couple of questions some of you guys might be able to answer. The card has a HSI bridge chip, right? What happens when you remove the stock fan and replace it with the Zalman? Is the HSI chip covered by the Zalman, or is it going to be exposed without cooling?

I bought the eVGA 6800GS from NewEgg. Unlocking the extra pipes and vertex shader was successful. I ran 3DMark05 and saw no artifacts whatsoever. However, when I started up Madden NFL 2006, I saw lots of artifacting

Overclocking, on the other hand, was definitely a no-go. System would lock hard when running anything.

I got mine this weekend. I threw in a Zalman 700cu on it. (In hindsight, I suggest the AlCu, it is alot lighter, my card is seeing magor sag and bowing).
I unlocked the pipes, but how do I do the vertex shaders?

Anyway, here is a BFG 6800GS AGP, (factory overclocked)
470/1050. Before the Zalman upgrade...
3d mark 06:2385
3d mark 05:5227
3d mark 03:11513.
Used shipped drivers, 82.12.
--edit--I just saw the post on the unlocking the 6800 features. nevermind the vertex question..

Hi I have just purchased an Xpertvision 6800GS - 256MB and have had a lot of stability problems since upgrading from my old ATI9600. The problem appears to occur when playing games where 3d mode is used (Oblivion, BF2, CS tc) and 3dmark2001 crashes before completion.

My system specs are Abit NF-7, XP3200+, Antec 400w PS and I have been using the driver supplied on the CD (84.12) I used driver cleaner to remove the old ATI drivers prior to installing the Nvidia drivers

I noticed that rivatuner reports the core @ 350mhz and Mem & 1200mhz - in 2d mode and 450/1200 in 3d performance mode. Are these figures in spec for a stock 6800GS (AGP) - note that I have not modded the card ?

At this stage I have gone back to the 9600 and are considering returning the card (Hopefully) - but I would appreciate any ideas to try.

Thanks
