About a month ago I built a new computer, but the only thing I did not buy new was videocard because the game I play(counter-strike:source) is direct 3d and does not put too much stress on your videocard, but more on your processor and other parts. Here are my computer specs as of now...
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3700+ @ 2.61ghz Socket 939
Harddrives: 200gb 7200RPM MAXTOR 16mb Cache(real hd)
80gb 7200RPM MAXTOR 8mb cache(used for storage)
Motherboard: ASUS A8V DELUXE Socket 939
Ram: OCZ Gold Series with heatspreaders 2GB (4 x 512mb) PC3200 Timings 2-2-2-5
VideoCard: Gforce fx5900XT 128mb SOON: Radeon X850XT 256mb
PowerSupply: Antec TrueControl 550w
Cooling: 4 Additional Case Fans
Case: CoolerMaser CAC-T01
OS: Xp Professional
Now with christmas coming up and me just not feeling like I have fully "built" this pc I found it the perfect time for me to get a new videocard. The one thing holding me back is that since I was keeping my old videocard I got an AGP mobo when I built this computer so the new videocard I get has to be AGP, which is kinda depressing because it keeps my from getting the 7800GTX. The 2 AGP card thats I am trying to decide between are...
Visiontek Radeon x850XTPE 256mb($350) or BFG Gforce 6800 OC 256mb($360)
Personally I am a big fan of nvidia just because I enjoy digital vibrance and I find that their drivers are better, but between these two cards it seems to be as if the x850XTPE would be a much better card for me to get. I was thinking this just cause it is like $20 bucks cheaper and because it just seems to be a faster/better running card than the 6800GT.
Also I have another question...
Would it be worth the extra $350 performance wise to get this mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813136151 with this videocard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130235 ? or would the performance increase from just spending $350 and getting of of those 2 cards about on the board I have now to the performace I would get with that DFI board and the 7800GTX just not be worth the money?

So what do you guys think?

You should have initially got the X800 GTO2, because you can turn it into a X850 XT PE, and it would have cost you about the same as that 5900XT

I suggest a DFI Ultra-D and a 7800GT

I have not found anywhere that sells a 7800GTX with a free mobo so idk about doing that. I dont see why the x850XTPE would be such a bad card for me to get I mean its a top of the line card just not at the very top with the 7800GTX.

Just seems like a lot of money for AGP, although it doesn't seem like crossfire will ever matter anyway.
How about this?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130258 - 6800GS
or
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130215 - 6800GT
or
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130256 - 7800GT

along with

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813128301 - Just an example of a cheaper nForce4 / SLI board

Reviews show that it puts up a pretty good fight against the 6800gt, and would allow you to add another one if you chose to SLI in the future if you needed more power.
What monitor / resolution do you want to game with? The 6800gt and SLI mobo would only set you back less than $400, and you'd get a lot more futureproofing than buying AGP.
Spending $360 on a 6800gt because it's a BFG is just silly IMHO.
The 7800GT at around 330 would be a noticable improvement over a 6800GT. You already have a SKT939 chip that has a great overclock, so I would get a PCI-e board, and a good card with upgradability and enjoy that system for a long time to come.

I really think I am just going to stick with my Asus A8V Deluxe AGP mobo for now and get this card... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814129048 . I mean that card may not perform as well as new motherboard with a 7800GTX would, but it is has a core clock speed of 540mhz and a memory clock speed of 1180 so it will work for me. Just getting this card will also save me a couple hundred dollars from getting a new mobo with a 7800GTX. Keep in mind I am upgrading from a fx5900XT 128mb so this card will run amazing compared to my old card. Thanks for the help and opinions though guys. <3

I didn't know they made x850xl's without dual DVI
Anywho, nice card, nice price, and if you wanna keep the mobo, I think thats the best thing to do
Enjoy it!

Maybe check out a used 6800gt for around 220 on here, OC to an ultra, and it'd be 100 less. Just a thought.

If you are choosing between the 6800GT and the X850XTPE. and you play alot of CS Source the Radeon willl be faster!

get dheffer's first choice. i read through the comments just to make sure someone mentioned the 6800GS. get the DFI lanparty with the 6800GS. the mobo is $189, the video card is $200. this also leaves tons of room for future upgradability
