The X800 Pro is sort of a rip off @ 400 since the non ultra 6800 has 12 pipes as well but is 300. the GT is understandable at 400 because of the 16 pipes. ATi is just taking advantage of the fact that more customers will pay premium for thier cards, If they release a 16 pipeline Pro at 400, NVIDIA wont survive.

Remember that the 6800 will have only 128MB as well as a lower price.

Hehe, that's funny

Depends on the price of the X800Pro when the GT is released, the X800Pro is out now and will drop in the month between now and the GT release mid-June.

Also, neither card will sell for MSRP, so it'll be a case of seeing how much cheaper they are than RRP, if they X800Pro sells for $300 and the 6800GT for $350 it'll be a tougher decision. They might be the same price though (like both $350)

the # of pipes means nothing w/o considering the processing power of each pipe... hence the 12 pipe x800pro outperforms the 16 pipe nvidia in many instances.

Hey Bluewall,
As far as FarCry is concerned, it is not an nvidia issue alone. It involves Crytek to "fix" the game so it will run like its supposed to. Im no programmer and have no clue whats involved. I personally do not like the FarCry demo so it wont be a deciding factor in my purchase. But for those that love the game, you should be fine using a 6800 in the near future. Crytek has to fix it because people who love nvidia and will only buy nvidia may not purchase FarCry due to its poor IQ and framerates compared to ATI's latest monsters. So if they want to make all the cash they can, they had better get coding some serious patches.

It isnt just the patch. The 61.11's have several bugs in the game. You have to blame NV for some of it, they need to fix the problems. IF they can keep the performance gains, and get rid of the bugs, then that would be great.

Agreed, but I did say that its not an nvidia issue "alone". Meaning that Nvidia needs to jump on this as well as Crytek.

You'd be surprised how that GT performs , it beat the ultra high end cards in a few benches. Shows the potential. Im not fanboying or anything
but I just hope that the High End reaches the REAL MSRP which is $400. Everything should fall into place soon i hope. Then i can get my X800XT

Definetely the GT, I want my 16 pipes
Not to mention I'm pretty confident we're going to see some pretty good performance boosts once newer drivers come out and because it's such a new core.

I hope a future revision of 6800GT or X800 Pro will have two DVI-output, like their highend brethen. Plus, only cost $200.

The dedicated programmable video processor, overclocking results with the reference board, and nV 64bit driver support will earn them my money at this point.

Whether it has dual dvi is not up to ati or nvidia

Most people can't utilize dual DVI anyway, that should be a special flavor of cards.

Wow, hmm. Now I really want to know if the extra 128 onboad is worth it. It likely could wait until the NV50 and RV5xx, couldn't?

I'm just curious, where does it say that the x800 series doesn't have a lot of headroom for overclocking? I've looking around, and and hothardware.com said that the x800 xt didn't overclock much at the moment, but the potential for headroom exists. On the other hand, they said that the x800pro had sizeable headrom for overclock.

Edit:
Hexus.net says, "R420 seems to scale with core and memory clock quite similarly to NV40. It seems to scale well with simple core clock increases, moreso than memory clock increases."

i would go ATI.......since that would mean less bother with drivers ie if u already have ATI that is. lookin at some of the benchmarks this R420 has some real nice AA and AF performance which wins me over.....also the ati wont need a more powerful....or should i put a better quality psu, with 2 spare connectors....it gives off less heat which is always good and is single slot not that u gonna use the next slot down at all.....but at least its an option.

the psu bit is assuming the 6800GT will have full 16 pipe turned on.

hopefully their could be a way to enable the remaining 4 pipes in the pro which would be nice!

either way both cards arent gonna have any trouble with anygame at any res!!!

ones got better AA and AF the other has on chip video encoding.....i think its even stevens, but out of preference i would buy the ATI

Wow, the starting price for the value cards is $400! I was hoping for $250. Wow, video card prices continue to shoot up.

Technically the 6800GT and X800 Pro aren't the value cards. I don't know if ATI has a plan to release anything else, but there's a vanilla 6800 coming with only 128mb RAM and (I think) 12 pipes. It'll launch at $300 which means it'll hit $250 within a couple of days/weeks and likely settle between $210-$250 like the 9800 Pro.

Depends on how fast the 6800 will be. The X800P and 6800GT certainly seem capable of using the extra mem, as they're playable at 12x10 AA+AF in practically everything, IIRC. I'm not sure the 6800 and X800SE will be fast enough to make the extra mem worth paying for.

D3D is the future , Quake III games ended up with COD , my main choice goes to X800 Pro .
If how ever the GT will outperform the 800 Pro in loaded engines like FarCry , i will take the GT ,... at the end the best card in D3D will have my money . Looking especialy for a card who will shine in Operation Flaspoint 2 , Stalker and TF2 (HL2 mod)
12 , 16 or 32 pipes does not influence my purchase , the fastest card will ,...

D3D is the future ? Are you that ignorant of the benfits OpenGL ? I'll give you a clue , look at the FPS and quality of OpenGL games and compare them to D3D. You'll see what i'm talking about.
