Well that's just rediculous. Unless they have some sort of secret Japanese formula that no one knows of... Let's consider things here. The game is going to have top notch graphics and will not even be released for some time now. Supposedly revolutionary graphics, actually. How many games like this have we seen that can run maxxed on mid-low range cards from what would be around 2, maybe 3 cycles old maybe by the time that game comes out.
But they have to use the technology available when the STARTED developing the game. Not the newest technologies by the time they finish. Or else you have to keep switching engines like duke unkem forever.

Holy mother of pricing that Asus X800XL is cheap!

In teh US, it's a closer war between the X800XL & 6800GT PCI-E.
Here in Canaduh, there is no question. The X800XL is miles ahead of the 6800GT in terms of price/performance.

Oh, & dsj, you won't be playing UT2k7 smoothly with a 6600GT unless you are running at ultra low settings. I don't care what has been said/heard.
Unreal Engine games have always been CPU-bound, but not that much, lol...

Grrr $307 canadian and customs will probably jack up the price, so I might as well get the $370 from ncix

It's at least safe to count on Prey running faster on a 6800GT. It uses a modified version of the Doom3 engine.

I saw a post somewhere that linked to benchmarks of the beta version of F.E.A.R.. It seems that currently the only way to get playable framerates on that game is with a 7800GTX (preferably SLI). Hopefully they'll be doing some hard core optimizations between then and the release date.

But hey we're assuming it will be a game worth playing It might not be that great and overhyped.

Here's the F.E.A.R. beta benchies.

Not quite as bad as I remembered. These were done at 4x AA/8x AF. I guess if you turned off the eye candy it wouldn't be so bad. Notice the 6800GT scoring higher than the X850XT PE in 2 of 3 benches.

Hmmm well without 4xAA/8xAF and standard 1024 x 768.....it should run fine. x800xl got 33FPS at those, take off the 4xAA/8xAF shud run a lot better. 6800GT got 39.....so it seems x800xl > 6800GT, not huge diff performance and x800xl is much cheaper.
