If price was not an object, which would you go with?

6800GT

X800XL

I know x800xl is the best bang for the buck, but 6800 performs better and theres the SLI too (Well I suppose same for x800xl once crossfire comes out).

Eh? I'm just trying to play BF2/HF2/doom3 on full settings, I have a san diego 3700+, DFI lanparty nf4 and corsair value select 2GB 3200 ram lined up.

Thanks.

Depends. X800 XL runs faster at HF2, but the 6800GT pwns the x800 XL at bf2 and doom3. Based on that, I would personally suggest the 6800GT. But, if you were going purely on price/performance, I would suggest the x800 XL for pci-e.

If you're not worried about the price difference, then get the 6800 GT.

But I agree that the X800XL is usually a better buy in PCI-e.

I would go for the 6800GT since it will still play HL2 well but the X800XL can't beat it in Doom 3 or BF2.

Who cares about HL2 and DoomIII these days? Let's look to the future. BF2, F.E.A.R other new releases are a lot more relevant than HL2 and Doom. Can we just leave 2004 behind and focus on "now"?

No, in BF2/Doom3/UT2004/Farcry 6800GT comes out on top, only in HF does x800xl beat 6800Gt.

it comes out on top in bf2 by about 2 fps. its not worth the $100 over than the x800xl, only game it really wins signficantly is doom3.

I'm just worried about future games such as F.E.A.R/Prey/UT2007...will the x800xl handle them on full settings or even mid?

X800XL. I'm not a fanboy, but I'll say this. The X800XL is cheaper. What matters is money in the end. You're not limited by performance, but rather by your budget. If they were both $299 and you couldn't get them for cheaper, then I'd say 6800GT. 6800GT wins in more contests by a larger margin. Plus, the 6800GT overclocks really nicely unlike the X800XL. Personally, I prefer lower power and cooler card, PLUS cheaper, so I'll have to go wtih x800XL.

I didn't have great luck with my 6800nu in BF2, and my friends all complain of bad performance with their 6600's in BF2. My 9800pro ran much better in BF2 than my 6800nu.

Didn't the developers of UT2007 say that the game will run perfectly on a 6600GT?

I believe they did, but what they're not telling you is that to get it to run perfectly you may need to set it to 800x600 with all detail settings off

Well that's just rediculous. Unless they have some sort of secret Japanese formula that no one knows of... Let's consider things here. The game is going to have top notch graphics and will not even be released for some time now. Supposedly revolutionary graphics, actually. How many games like this have we seen that can run maxxed on mid-low range cards from what would be around 2, maybe 3 cycles old maybe by the time that game comes out.

I'm on a budget, so I bought an x800xl. I could have stretched my budget to let me buy a 6800GT, but with such a marginal difference in performance between the two cards, the x800xl just seemed like a smarter buy. Besides, I prefer HL2 over Doom3 anyways .

If your focusing on upcoming games and want the best performance, you probably need to increase your budget. I'd love to have the best card to handle all the new games coming out, but the wallet just isn't thick enough. :\

Edit: Same card at Monarch for $250 shipped, damn haha. Too bad shipping to Canada didn't take a month.
