Have a wierd problem with my video card, sometimes it will randomly freeze. Then the screen goes all crazy with massive fuzzy colored lines running across it. I have to restart to fix it. I have the lates drivers from nvidia. Any suggestions?

sounds like its overheating, since it is overclocked. Since your overclocking, you probably already know everything about cooling it, so all I can suggest is underclocking.

well the temp constatly says its running at 41c,
The vga silencer rev5 is the one that fits 6800 correct?
If i get one of those could that possibly fix the problem?

First thing is to run it at stock speeds and see if it still has this problem. Also try turning off Fast writes.

AGP? or PCI-e? Someone here had a problem with their PCI-e vers. and there is a small power cable that pCI-e uses.

I had similar problems, but lonly happened when i was playing CS :S or Joint ops (esp joint ops). Clocking down to 375 solved my problems, for the most part but from reading various forums it *might* be a hardware conflict with usually a audigy 2 , and in my case probably my wireless controller or my onboard LAN chip. Also I would caution to think that all GT chips can do Uttra speeds. The Ultra speeds are attainable most of the time, but not all of the time. I suggest you do the following:

1) clock (core/mem) 375/1000 run it for a few days or stress it and see if its stable
2) clock 382/1000 run it and stress it (esp if it crashes on certian games) see if its stable
from there on out go 5mhz up to 400 if you get instability then take 2mhz off till it is stable

for memory

(stable core OC/memory) -/1050 test for stablitiy
-/1075 test for stablitiy
-/1082 test for stability
5 mhz up to 1100 then stop when you start getting lockups or artifacts ( if i remember correctsly memory tends to less forgiving than core, so you might get lockups as opposed to artifacting)

Let me also add that turning off fast writes did not help me (i used riva tuner) and also let me add that I have a GAinward 6800GT GS and the card is still flakey, short of a new os install with their recommended drivers I cannot say for sure whether its the card or the OS + drivers not gettign along...

41C? You sure that's right? Most of those seem to cards idle a good 20C higher - I know mine does!

I had the same problem with my 6800Ultra. It was being recognised as a PCI card. I downloaded the latest nForce2 Chipset driver and my problems went away. I was having artifacts in the point sprite test in 3Dmark01 that went away too.

Well i have a really cold room, sits in the far corner of the house, so my ambient temp is around 69f .. i like it cold (-=

I also have a case fan directly above the card blowing down on it..(-= a little mod i did myself.

try this : my fix was to put the 6800GT on its own power rail, nothing else, just the 6800GT. Seems to work fine now, 1 hr of 3dMark2005 and no crashing and abnormalities. Make SURE your +12v has at least 20amps (most have less hell even my antec true 430w only had 20amps, and some 500w have only 14amps) if not I woudl consider tring this on a different computer...
