I have a pny 6800, is this a nu card?

what can i expect to oc this thing to if its already at 390/800 stable?

NU = Non-Ultra/GT (Plain Vanilla 6800)

You might be able to overclock your mem a little bit higher, but your core is already pushing the higher end of the scale.

Doesn't hurt to try to get it higher though.

i have a shuttle sff so the card faces outward - took me about 5 seconds to slip a 3.3k ohm resistor into TP9 and TP10 for 2.83v - has to be the worlds easiest voltage mod.

I was looking at the picture on how to voltmod the card, i can see how the obtained they graph. How do i decide what resistor i need exactly? Do you take the graph at the level you want a purchase a resistor = to that resistance? Also how do i find out what resistance i should use if im not running the card they mooded.

I have a pny 6800.

thanks.

Just an update. Turning on 1.4v to the core made me experience that "freeze, but mouse moves" problem that many other people are reporting. What is funny is, the card will recover gracefully after about 20 seconds or so, run for about a minute, then repeat the cycle. Makes me wonder if the people who experience this problem, can fix it by lowering the core volts on their cards..?

In the end, I put my card back to 1.2v, 375MHz/900MHz and it has run a 3DMark loop for about 8 hours straight. Also got some Quake 4 time in, and ended the last 3 complete levels (and the game!) with no visual or framerate problems.

I have a kid looking at that mem voltmod pic, and maybe over the weekend I can convince him to do the soldering for me.

Thanks for reading.

I should be able to get some numbers out in terms of my overclock this weekend. My video card, thermal compound, and NV 5 are currently at my local UPS building and will be delivered tomorrow. Work will surely suck and drag on, and I pray that someone is home to sign for the package as I don't want to have to take time off of work just to be home for the delivery.

My eVGA GeForce 6800 arrive today along with the NV Silencer. First I have to say that the NV Silencer is INCREDIBLY quiet. WOW! I actually think my 6800 is quieter than my Ti-4600 was. I'm amazed. I'm also happy to see how cool the card is staying. When looking in the driver properties, the 'Ambient' Temperature typically reads about 35C at idle while the Core reads 56C. After a few bouts of 3DMark05, the Core reads 63C and the Ambient bumps up to 41C.

Now I have no idea what the ambient temperature is supposed to represent, but I'm happy to see the card's core temperature remain cool under heavy workload. I'll soon be giving it a run through with Half-Life 2 to see how hot it actually gets. I just wish I could get SpeedFan to read the GPU temperature.

I also tried to unlock the pipelines and vertex shaders and came up a bit short. As soon as I rebooted after unlocking the exra pipelines, everything was grainy and there were random pixels that were changing colors. Obviously the disabled pipelines don't work. The vertex shader, on the other hand, appears to be working just fine. I need to run some more tests, but I haven't seen any artifacts or 'oddities' with it yet. This weekend I'll truly get to give it a test as I attempt to overclock as well. (BTW, my 3DMark05 score was only 3300 with this card. Probably because I'm stuck at AGP 4x with my Intel 845d chipset).

sweet used powerstrip, have my pny 6800 oc to 380 core, and 920 memory. I have the voltage on stock. Thinking of using nibitor to change it to 1.4. Has anyone else done this and if so is it safe? I have a nv5 silencer so im not worried about heat.

Let me know

thanks.,

edit:

scored 4442 on 3dmark05

I currently have my eVGA 6800NU overclocked to 400 MHz core and 800 MHz memory. This is at stock voltages and the temperatures are 45 idle and 54 under full load. I could probably take it higher, but I'm not seeing to much in terms of performance gains. (3DMark05 is still only scoring about 3700. I don't know if the overclock is getting throttled down for some reason during the testing, or if it's just the fact that my motherboard is limiting the data rate. I'll have to look into that further).

I run my day to day at 385/850 but havehad it as high as 392/900 with no atrifacts....

key to some ocing for me was raising agp vcore....the higher I raised the agp vcore the higher nvidias own optimization settings took me.....

I also have a BFG and the cooler on that is dual fan and a bit better then most...

Did some overclocking this weekend, got it up to 375/875, but the FPS I gained over a solid midrange clock of 360/835 was maybe 2 FPS on HL2LC.

Looks like the 128mb memory is a real factor especially in newer games. Oh well, still the best damn AGP card for $150.

Yeah, I'm seeing very little return from the higher clocks. So I think I'm just going to go with what the 'optimized' setting is and leave it at that. In 2D, I have my card running at the factory settings as there is zero need for me to have it overclocked there. I also think that the 128MB of memory, and for me the limit of 4x AGP, is really stifling the performance. Oh well. It's still loads better than my Ti-4600.

That's almost a completely different animal than we're talking about...you've got 2 265mb PCI-E models in SLI, we're talking about the single 128mb AGP.

Damn though, nice score.

edit...i guess some people are talking about the PCI-E...sorry bout that. But SLI? You're not allowed to post scores here ;>

I got my EVGA 6800 to 360/810. It was stable in everything I played. I just toned it down back to the default 325/700 after hearing people's vid cards go defunct on them for overclocking.
