I just got the QX6700. And after installing it on my BFG 680i board, i begin to suffer random restart. I thought it was a power supply issue, since i originally had a 650w PSU. So I upgraded to a 1000w PSU, but still same issue. I even tried updating the bios, and setting the memory voltage from 1.8 (default) to 2.0v...Nothing works...

When I say random restart, i mean random. I could be doing nothing, or I could be surfing the internet, or running orthos, or prime95, or playing a game. It could be 5 minutes after windoes starts, or it might not restart at all until the next day or two..but eventually it'll restart.

I even tried reinstalling a fresh copy of XP on test HDD, but instead of restarting it would randomly BSOD or freeze up. I'm all out of ideas, I'm not OCing or anything.

I ran memtest and PC-Check and it found nothing wrong. The only error I see from Memtest is when i set it to check (BIOS-All) test under option 3. Not sure what that does but it gives nothing but errors. So I wasn't sure if it was testing memory or something else. Maybe memtest doesn't support 680i?? But default memtest passed without any errors. PC-CHeck passed too, which checks for CPU, motherboard, HDD, memory, stress test, the works..And orthos and prime95 ran fine for a good 1 or so...Please HELP!!!

Oh, also, it works perfectly normal if I turn off 2 of the cores. And yes I've tried using different core setups IE Core 0 with Core 3 only. Also it core temp averages around 49-55C...

reboots are caused by
1 - PSU
2 - RAM
3 - drivers sucking the big 1

advice #1
get a GOOD psu, not that BFG crap. Any of the these in no particular order:

Enermax Galaxy
PCP&C TurboCool
PCP&C Silencer >610
Zippy/Emacs SSL
Zippy/Emacs GSM
Zippy/Emacs PSL
Silverstone ZF (Etasis 85/75/56)
Seventeam ST >600 (SSI, V2.91)

advice #2
get better ram. again in no particular order:

Corsair XMS2
OCZ Ti
Team group

advice #3
pull out all unnecessary devices. pull out sound card and pull out the second GTX. reinstall windows with just 1 videocard and nothing else. install 680i drivers and latest forceware. fiddle around and see if you still have problems. AFTER you tested and are trouble free, stick the second video card in and enable SLI. AFTER that put in your sound card and install drivers. if the reboots are caused by a screwy driver (creative is famous) you will find it by process of elimination.

advice #4
(i hate to say this) RMA your motherboard/CPU
at this point there is nothing left to try. feel free to vent at something, i know how it feels when you pay top dollar for stuff and it doesnt work like it should...

thats all I can think of, good luck man.

Yah, I've updated bios, and reinstalled latest forceware..I'm also running XP 64 bit. Guess I'll go and refund the memory. I think it's the Motherboard...to be honest.

Well it works perfectly fine if I set it for only dual cores instead of quad...

Only known problem with QC and 680i so far has been overclocking as far as I have seen.

Do you think that it's a compatiblity with my ram? Or is the ram DOA?? It seems to be working perfectly fine with only 2 cores enable. That's what really is confusing me.
