6950, gtx560 ti and civ 5

Looking at anandtech's comparison the 6950 equals or beats 560 it's in most games but there seems to be a big dropoff with civ 5. Whats the reason for this or was this just early drivers. Any other games suffer like this with the 6950?

Since Civ 5 is one of the main games I play should I go with the nvidia card?

title said 6950 and gtx 590. then the post said 5950 and 590, but link shows 560 ti.

the 2 cards trade blows just as they always have. if you play civ 5, the choice looks obvious

In general the 6950 is a little bit faster but you probably wouldn't notice the difference. If Civ 5 is your game of choice, the 560Ti is probably the better buy.

The developers of this game worked with Nvidia, there was a article from them over on the Nvidia blog, can't find it right now. It was put up around the launch date of the game.

all card revies show the current range from ATI suffer / loose to nVidia cards.

The reason appears to be tessellation (sp?) as the game is very heavy with it. Some of the ATI cards have better bentchmarks for tessellation but it is not being converted to the gaming side as well as it should.

I suspect it is something a future driver update will fix for civ5 using ati cards, but no idea how far ahead that is.

For now, civ 5 fans should be sticking to nvidia were they can. In 6 months it might be different, but to stop playing for that time is not a option for a fan of the game.

I play a ton of civ 5 also. either one of those cards on 1920x1080 will be cpu-limited in most actual gameplay scenarios. I'd go with whichever card you can find for less money in your area.

It would be good for everyone if a reviewer would do a article on the tessellation slider in AMD's new CCC panel.

First show how it does nothing at the default setting, visually and fps wise. And then make adjustments and test the performance increases and if and how it effects the visuals.
