6950 poor performance

Hi all, recently my dad lent me his 6950 because I've been getting good marks. It's an ASUS Direct CU II model. We had to remove the chasis of the card so that it would fit in my Antec 300 case. i uninstalled my 4850 drivers, reboot in safe mode, ran driver sweeper, installed the card, installed the new drivers, and tried some games. I seem to have really poor performance. Assassin's creed struggles to get over the 30 fps barrier in open areas. Saints row the third plays at about 23-24 fps. Skyrim roams at around 40 - 50 (no AA). Battlefield plays ok on ultra but brought it down to high on big maps. I know I should be getting better performance but don't know how to fix this. I have tried this card with the drivers it comes with ( installation cd), catalyst 12.1, and 12.2 preview. UI have also tried resetting mobo CMOS. Can anybody help?

All the framerates provided were played in max graphics settings, 1080p with no AA.

You don't mention your power supply. It's possible that you don't have enough power to run it and it's throttling itself down to compensate.

Does that board suffer from the PCIe x1 bug? Run CPUz and check the third tab - mainboard - and make sure the link width says x16 and not x1.
