How To 6950 X 2 vs 7800 X 1

So, I have an older PC that I built back in 2012. Currently running a single 2GB 7800 series card.

I'm considering replacing it with two Crossfire Radeon 6950 HD 2 GB each cards.

I can do it for free but I'm not really sure if it would bring any extra power and frame rate. My current newer card, which is about 7 years old itself, has a better core speed but I'm wondering if Crossfire 2 cards together would be better overall even though each of the cards is a little bit less powerful.

Anyone have any thoughts or specs about this? It's just kind of a curiosity Pet Project right now. Just something to Tinker with

Hard to say for sure about performance, but know that the 6950 series is now legacy, being pre-GCN. They have discontinued driver updates for these cards. The 7850 and 7870 should still be supported last I checked. You will likely have better luck with that, especially in more recent games. That said, both cards are rather old.

What are the rest of the specs and what games would you be playing?

I wouldn't try Crossfire with VLIW dGPUs in modern games. No driver support, no Xfire profiles, etc.

Spring for a 7970 or 290X. 290X delivers good DX12 performance and is still receiving driver updates.

I have owned a fair number of Hawaii cards, and personally I think a 390 should be on the list. 8GB VRAM guaranteed, and most of them have good coolers to boot. There's an XFX 390 on eBay right now for $92 shipped. I have owned one of those XFX cards before, and I really enjoyed using it as a mining card. I'm sure it would do well in display duty.

In contrast, I can't find an 8GB 290x for less than $103 shipped, and the 390 might be marginally faster.

I'd Suggest a RX470 8gb, I've seen quite a few sneak through eBay under 80$, Bought mine for 74$ shipped (and sold my 7950 for 62$ a week later)
