I have been wanting to get a new smaller tv, I have a 6 year old hitachi ultravision projection 57" 1080i, this would be smaller but would the picture be better?

Doubtful. CRT rear projection sets, when properly calibrated, look FANTASTIC. The color is great, the black levels are BLACK, and the response time is instant. However, it's not easy to maintain a CRT RPTV set in prime condition like that.

The LCD will give you a sharper picture (because it can actually resolve all 1080 lines, but it won't necessarily look more "real" or cinematic when watching actual TV shows.

I greatly disagree with Odeen. This TV will be leaps and bounds better. I have both a Visio 42" LCD and a Sony 46" rear projection TV. I have had to calibrate this TV for the red spectrum but still, even brand new the pic was a bit grainy. My Visio is pretty darn good, and if given an HD or high quality signal from my PC or laptop, or my XBOX 360...DAMN! The clarity is very good. I have yet to dabble with BluRay but with DVD's and the other mentioned sources it is a very good picture. I've worked on TV's, both projection and LCD/Plasma and the quality of projection is crap. It is low tech and simply a way to make a CRT look bigger at the expense of clarity. No calibration can clean up a projection TV to the level of a Plasma or LCD TV, PERIOD!

This is hot. I have the 32" Spectre from Black Friday in 2006 that Costco was selling, and it's a wonderful TV. It was $599.99 back then!

However, it's out of stock!
