If your OS is 32Bit then your computer can only use ~4GB of memory. Upgrade to 64Bit OS then it can access all 6GB.

Run MSCONFIG --> BOOT TAB --> ADVANCED OPTIONS --> MAXIMUM MEMORY

Uncheck or clear the box next to Max Mem, Save/Apply then restart. Check for a newer BIOS also.

unfortunately no, but that does not necessarily mean anything I have used memory that is not on the list fine before.

Couple of last things,

1) I had tried each stick individually, each reported 2gb
2) tried it even in the blue slots, even though the manual says to use the white for 3 sticks
32) tried it with both the xmp profile off and on
43) even put the latest bios on as well still reads 4gb

here is the memory in question. KHX1600C9D3K3/6GX

Will try this again tommorow, getting frustrated and does not help when troubleshooting.
maybe a clear head will help.

If there are any other suggestions please let me know and I will try tomorrow

the msconfig thing did not make any difference. I am now feeling that it might be a board issue.

I had just 2x2GB sticks in and at boot its says 2GB installed.

I had tried some of the suggestings in the other links, setting the qpi/vtt voltage, tried manually setting the ddr voltage and no change

looked at the socket, no bent pins or such, looked at the bottom of cpu and there is a contact point on all pads

Reseated all ram and cpu, same results

beginning to sound like QPI mem interface or the onchip CPU mem controller - that might actually mean its the CPU, not the mobo, (unless its bad mem slot). Which is prob why the thread mentioned to look real careful at the cpu pins
Bummer
last thing I'd try is out of the case

Is your machine overclocked if so have you tried going back to factory default settings?

This is all at stock, have not done any over clocking other than setting the xmp profile or tried manual voltage settings. I have reset to bios defaults after every change when it did not work.

I have send off a tech support request to gigabyte as well to see if they have any suggestions

Had this issue with an ASRock X58 Extreme. Tried a different board with all the same hardware and there was no issue. I recommend you RMA.

this

unfortunately it really isn't all that uncommon for X58 boards

had a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R that had two of the six slots die on me
