New computer is up and running, but it's only showing 4GB in task manager on windows xp 64 bit. However, In cpu-z, it's showing 6GB. Is this just an issue with 64bit?

I think it might be a limitation of Windows XP, though I would expect it to be much higher since it would kind of defeat the purpose of 64 bit if all you gain is 512MB extra...

This is a shot in the dark, but try enabling VT in the bios. I don't think that would do anything though... but no harm in having that turned on anyway if you want to do VMware stuff. (it's often off by default).

Let me guess, X58 chipset?

Seems this issue just continues to occur there.

Bent pins in the socket not making proper contact with the CPU & defective mobos are a few of the things i've heard can cause this.

What motherboard? Probably need to enable memory remapping in bios.

Definitely not a problem with XP x64. I have 8GB and it sees all 8GB.

Try going to System Configuration and under advanced options, uncheck the maximum memory option. Restart and see if that helps.

that option is off by default. if i check it, it goes up to 4GB. In bios, it also only recognizes 4GB, so I have no idea. would cpu-z recognize a stick if it were defective?

I'm guessing it's some voltage problem with QPI. I'm at 4ghz now, and it's only detecting 2gb of ram now with 1.2975 v core and 1.4 qpi voltage. not sure what to tweak to get teh ramz back

Make some memory hole remapping is enabled, or something to that words effect. Just have a look through BIOS and you will see it.
