6tb VS 8tb? Recommendations?

Video editor here, need more storage. I've got a LianLi tower full of drives (2tb, 4tb, etc.) and it's been a while since I've needed space.

Recommendation for a good, reliable, high speed INTERNAL desktop HDD - 8tb or 6tb? (not sure where the sweet spot is right now). SATA 3

Also - same recommendation but for a good, reliable EXTERNAL HDD that will be used primarily for backup (so performance needn't be quite as high, since I'll mostly just be archiving and duplicating assets here). USB 3.0

Thank you!!

I would go with 8TB helium drives, they seem to be pretty good, and so far, I would go with Hitachi/WD/Seagate, in that order.
As for reliability, the only way to guarantee that is to have multiple backup devices, sorry, but there is no getting around this.
Any storage device will fail, and usually without notice, so, can't really say brand X will be better than brand Y.

That's what the redundant external backup is for Just saying quality of drive is a priority.

Which model(s) specifically, any links? Best place to buy from these days (amazon?).

What am I looking at for pricing, and are the 6tb drives helium as well?

Sorry for all the questions - been out of the loop and trying to play some quick catch up! Thank you!

For the externals, be aware that some external drives automatically encrypt the drive via a key that is stored on the controller of the device (not the HD). That means, when the controller fails, you can't pop out the HD and stick it in another machine, since the data is encrypted.

I rather go for internal drives + external case, or maybe a NAS unit.

I guess I would just go with whatever is on sale, either newegg or Amazon (but I really hate when they pack things incorrectly).
You are looking at $225 for a WD red 6TB HD, higher for the others.
