It will be interesting to see what shakes in my ppd.

The 6570 is paired with 2.8ghz P4 (!) with no CPU folding going on, my GTS250 is with a phenom 2 x4 with 1 CPU folding as well. How much (if any) is that P4 going to hold back the 6570? One "thread" on the P4 is pegged @ 100% by the FahCore process.

I was looking into it, and it appears the GTS250, for its era, is a folding beast. Even the GTX260, etc didn't exactly do that much better. A decent number of shaders @ high frequency lets it hang with the big boy cards while being somewhat power efficient.

Here they are...

Not too bad a day ... the racers produced more than 76% of the TeAm's output.
Fold more!

Once my current SMP work unit finishes on my main machine I am going to switch over to the V7 client. I was going to make the switch now, but not that I am 28% done with the unit, and FahMon has it listed at about 7,000 points, so it's worth finishing.

I have all 4 rigs running linux with the V7 client (all standard SMP). Just figured out this morning that the V7 client does not support GPUs in linux.

Thanks for the Stats Peter and Go snowmen!!! :whiste: :whiste:

Wow, great start Snowmen! I just acquired a refurb GTX 480 for dirt cheap so that should be good for ~14k PPD.

Slow start, due to WCG finally released some more DDDT2-work the FAH-production will be low a little longer. But, I've still managed to do a test-wu per "slot" to see how the new v7-client works-out...

The good: Installing, initial configuration with name & smp/gpu-combinations was easy, and no problem being up and running & downloading work with v7. The installer was happy to use the suggested non-default install-directory, something the older v6-clients didn't do. The FAH-control with wu-info and so on is also a big improvement over earlier FAH-clients.

The bad: FAH keeps using the less-than-useful non-local times so users must constantly convert, not a big problem since only 1 hour off but still. Also, the logs still miss dates, except they are now including the start-time. Log-files keeps referring to "Unit:##" and so on, instead of more informative things like "SMP-wu-#12345" or something. Selections like "pause crunching" and "finish wu and stop" is not saved between client-restarts, making it very difficult to stop crunching on a particular slot for whatever reason.

While it's now supposed to be possible to connect to other FAH-clients, atleast my try on this was a total failure, not sure if due to mis-understanding something or a firewall being in the way.

The ugly: Except for a few basic config-choises, the wast majority is hidden-away and must be added manually. To do so, you'll need to 1st. try to locate the documentation that contains the info and search-through the various options to try to find the one you're looking for and afterwards try to find out WTF you're supposed to add the various options. D:

Crap: Due to the client-weakness with temporary disabling a slot, removed the GPU-slot. But afterwards did a little searching and found-out client had used the old crappy GPU-core instead of the new OpenCL-one, so decided to re-enable GPU again. Trying to do so just spit-out an error-message, and trying uninstall & re-install didn't solve the problem, so had to nuke the whole client-install just to re-enable GPU again. Also, this gave the same crappy GPU-core again, so had to try to find-out if there was any option to get the newer core. While this info possibly is hidden-away somewhere on either FAH's site or the FAH-forums, after trying to wade-through various pages did a google-search instead and finally found the info on a non-FAH-site...

So basically, v7 is great... until you want to change any of the "non-standard" options (and most of the options is "non-standard"). If you do need to change anything, going-through the whole list of the various options like in v6-cmd-version was actually better than the so-called new and "improved" v7

In any case, while the new OpenCL-Ati-core seems to be faster and apparently gives more points than the old GPU-core did, it's still wasting a full cpu-core to do so. Additionally the SMP-part still gets a huge penalty if you're doing anything else with the computer. Both things will limit my FAH-production...

WOW, the Snowmen had great 1st. day production.

Hmmm, newegg shell shocker has a seasonic 520 bronze for $60. Or do I just spend the $35 for the antec neo eco ($10 rebate too)? Going to attempt to build one more cheap rig for the race. Have an old X2 sitting around. Just need a psu and hdd to get it running. Cheap video card.....and then more points for the yeti's.

The Antec Neo Eco are based on the Seasonic S12II series so I would go with the cheaper one. I have a 620C powering one my rigs and it's been running fantastic.

I have an important issue:

on win7 latest drivers and client 7 two of my nvidia gpu computers freeze randomly in the middle of gpu WUs...

anyone else having this problem? what could be wrong, it even happens without OC (the OC was gpugrid stable for month anyway)

I just restarted after moving back to my parents, so I apologise for the late start Yetis! Will see what I can do to make up for it...

Just spotted this V7 client stuff, think I better do that too as I'm still on 6.30

Thanks for the stats, Peter!
Oh, not you, Peter, the other Peter.
The European Peter. Oh.
The Swedish Peter! That should narrow it down.

Anyway, I was wondering, is it worth it to run the SMP client on a dual-core like an Athlon II x2 2.8GHz? I started 2 -big WUs yesterday, but they're barely half done and I'm only getting ~340PPD that way. (No, I can't unlock the other cores.)

Tell me, oh great one, what must I do to get my 6570 to use OpenCL?
Choose "Expert" mode, select "Configure" and go to the "Slots"-tab.
Select your "Gpu" (not sure if must select it multiple times if multiple gpu's), and choose "edit".
Scroll-down to the end, and use the "Add".
Type in "client-type" as name, and "advanced" as value (everything without the quotes), "ok" on all the dialogues, and "Save" then back on the slots-tab.

And, it should hopefully work.

Note, not all drivers seems to work correctly, atleast some reports has it the latest v11.11-drivers doesn't work correctly with FAH, but instead all work will error-out.

Someone in Correlizer thread said the Yetis could use some help here. I'm available. Looks like the teams are chosen, but if you have a slot, let me know how to get going. I have BOINC on all my machines right now.

New racers are welcome.

Download the client here: http://folding.stanford.edu/English/Download

Make sure you use a passkey for the SMP WU's in order to qualify for bonus (after completing 10 with at least 80% completion rate): http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/getpasskey.py

TeAm Anandtech is 198.

Sorry, but Folding@home is not a BOINC-project. It uses a stand-alone client, which is easily enough installed, but which prevents (unless you want to do a lot of configurations) the simultraneous use of BOINC. That is: if you run F@H and BOINC at the same time you have the risk of missing deadlines in F@H and then will not get any points.

OTOH: Correlizer needs support just now, since many Correlizer crunchers are at the 6th Annual Folding@Home Holiday Season Race. If you want to dedicate a whole CPU to F@H, please go to Folding@Home site and follow the leads - or ask more questions here ...

The TeAm's number: 198

Thanks for the info. Do know which versions have a better chance of working? currently folding on a 4830 and a 5850. Both are running the old f@h core and would like to use the opencl version. I'm using the environmental variables right now and both gpus average 75% of a core. I'm currently running:
BROOK_YIELD 2
CAL_NO_FLUSH 1
CAL_PRE_FLUSH 1
FLUSH_INTERVAL 128

The only problem I have had with the v7 client is that it doesn't assign the right name to my gpus. right now it shows that the 4830 has a tpf of 2:08 and the 5850 a 4:04 tpf. I tried pausing the slots so I could reorder the card ids, but no matter which one I would pause the 4830 would stay at 100% utilization.

Here are the second day's stats:

Today the the production was more equal and the Yetis produced some 3% more than the Snowman. Still a very credible production: the racers together produced more than 73% of the TeAm's total output today.

Fold on, recruit, assimilate, borgh upgrade and update ... the more the better!

I am building a AMD FX6100 rig; got a very good deal on a FX6100BE, got a Gigabyte GA-970A-D3 mainboard, a 750W 80+silver PSU, 8 Gigabyte RAM and two GTX560Ti ... lets see what that will do by the end of next week.

I foresee another big day by the Snowmen tomorrow...
I'm a snow man. I was snowing you with a flush yesterday! But I do expect to do somewhat better tomorrow.
