At 3:25 it talks about block stability in regards to building structures. Different materials will have different reliability and capabilities in structures.

Is this something that Minecraft had? I never played it much but I don't think it did.

Looks like we won't be living in sand castles!

No Minecraft does not have that, other than say certain blocks won't "float" in the air like sand or gravel, but to be honest that wouldn't work as well in Minecraft.

Using even basic Minecraft logic, it would be extremely easy to build a setup that zombies could not reach.

Hahaha hence my plan to make a massive citadel!

This block gravity thing is going to make mining amazing. Every few meters we will have to put up wooden supports like a real mine shaft .

until the zombies knock out the bottom of the citadel and it comes crashing down...

I saw 1 video of a guy playing and he was inside the attic of a 2 story house. night came, zombies came but they either couldn't get to him or didn't know he was there, but in the morning he went down and there were huge chunks of the walls missing.

Well most houses are made of wood.... I saw a video where they were in a brick house in which nothing was destroyed that was made out of brick unless the players broke it. Plus as I said before the game is in Alpha they are just adding new features not fixing, re-making and tweaking the ones already in the game.

7DTD just hit 500k on Kickstarter with 28 minutes to go. Wow. I pledged a week ago and it was only at 170k. No one expected it to blow up like it did in the last couple days.

Glad to see they got to 500K.

I would be worried about some indie developers getting so much money but I think these guys won't blow it. They're all industry vets going back to the 90s.

They also have a solid foundation already with the pre-alpha version we're seeing on Youtube.

Got my key today and put a little time in.

Took 4 tries to make it to Day 2. All 4 deaths were due to not being careful around my own traps.

Working on an underground bunker near a water supply. Exploration is tough because of the limited daylight. I'm going to have to camp out on rooftops over the course of a couple nights to cover large amounts of territory.

The world is definitely big. Lots of places to explore.

I still don't have my key. Waiting and waiting and waiting. Can't wait till I get it. I hate all those people on the forums moaning about not getting a key. Just wait and have patience lol.

Haha, no kidding. I literally deleted my bookmark for the forum because it was so bad on there. I just figured the key would show up eventually and no amount of complaining would make it come faster.

I'd be really surprised if you didn't have it by tomorrow morning. Seems like most people have it now.

Yeah, I posted that link before I watched it. Stopped after 20 min. I do think that pretty much is the game though. Either you settle in and just repair your fort, or go out and just get killed.

Looks pretty cool. But I would want there to be pvp for it to be a true zombie survival game

I was almost all set to buy 7 Days yesterday but the buy page was down or something.
After watching some of those videos with info on what they are planning, I'm kind of turned off now.

I don't like the whole special zombies thing. I know it changes up gameplay and stuff but I would prefer a traditional zombie survival game. Right now the zombies seem to know exactly where you are at night and make a bee-line right to you. With destructible blocks, flying monsters, climbing zombies, and acid spitting zombies, its going to make surviving many times more difficult than it already is, especially alone.

Maybe check out Rust? It leans more towards PvP in the videos so far, its just starting. Gary of Gary's Mod fame is making it.

so I decided to get into the 7 days alpha since I'm interested in playing a game like this. played last night. holy shit that is hard!!! at night time the zombies make a beeline right to you, so they know exactly where you are ALL the time at night.

They break through even tough walls and doors pretty damn quick and there's so many of them. there's no way you can defend yourself and your base and build it up and scavenge as well. at least not by yourself. you'd need at least 2 people, 1 to scavenge during the day and 1 to build up defenses and then both at night to defend and repair.

I can't imagine how hard this will be once they add the climbing and acid zombies and the giant bees!

I get lots of fps drop at night when the zombies are swarming.

I survived my first night easily by barricading doors with couches! I would be playing more but it crashes every five minutes on day 6...

I'm around Day 22-23 right now. Massive underground bunker... I go topside every other day or so to scavenge and blow things up with TNT.

Edit: Oh, yea the performance issues. If you press F8, you can see your frames per second. I'm usually around 60-70 FPS, but if I let the zombies build up over 5-6 days, it does start to drop down under 20. I go above ground and kill 100-150 of them and everything is good to go. Hopefully this will all be optimized over alpha/beta.

I wanted to create a place to discuss the Alpha 2 version and future versions. As the questions come in I will create a F.A.Q. by editing this post, and I would kindly request people to read this post or at least skim the F.A.Q. before posting.

Flying Enemies
I've seen a lot of concern regarding the giant mutated infected Japanese Beetles. These things are real life, (although not as big as in 7dtd) and can sting you repeatedly without dying, and can be deadly in real life. That said they won't be deadly in the game. The plan for them is to try and goad the player into making noise by using a shotgun on them, which could draw in a hoard at night. Imagine stealth implemented and you are hiding on a rooftop. Zombies won't automatically know where you are in alpha 2 and there will be a stealth system. So the beetles will be a low frequency semi rare and possibly biome dependent creature that is just there to maybe cause the player to do something stupid and make noise.

Acid Puking Hulks
These guys are sort of bosses, but rare too. They will cause some fairly severe damage to your fort, but any good sniper with a silenced sniper rifle should be able to stop them before they do anything to severe.

AI
The pathfinding will improve, the spawning will improve. The game will not always be 50 zombies at night in your face magically knowing where you are. It will be possible to sneak around at night if you are careful. Zombies might be drawn to light in the future. In a dynamic world pathfinding is a lot more difficult than a static world game. We also want zombies to all attack around your fort and not just one.

Rewards for grinding
We will introduce a repair tool so you can fix damaged blocks. You will get XP for crafting things.

Renewable resources
We are planning renewable resources. So even though loot might get harder to come by, once we integrate bandits, trader npcs and being able to plant trees and make your own fuel from fermented corn and such, I don't think this will be a problem any more. We're hoping to make the world at least 4x bigger than it is currently, and we will probably also have a random generated nearly infinite world too so if you don't want to play in navazgane you can create a random map and play that.

Anyhow, we have a lot of work ahead of us. This is a very early alpha of the game, try to have some patience and know we are nowhere near satisfied with the core experience yet, and will add many layers to it yet.

F.A.Q.

When will Alpha 2 be out?
When it's done. I know that might seem unacceptable to some people but game development takes time to do things right. The 1.1 patch will be pretty soon though.

Will you do anything to stop piracy?
Yes. Can we stop it? No. But over time we hope to thin the herd and at least prevent them from playing online.

When will multiplayer be ready?
Not for some time, but we are making a few enhancements along the way since people found a way to play it anyway.

I don't like the idea of NPC's or flying beetles, can I disable them?
There will be a few options. One is mods to disable them, and we want to have a random world generator where the creation menu has options to enable/disable a variety of things.

Will we be anything we get from special infected?
Yes. Everything we implement will have a use. Like maybe you can use the stinger from the hornet as an arrow tip that stuns your prey, or harvest the acid from the hulk and use it to melt reinforced doors down.

Will we have to start a new game when the patch comes out?
If you want to experience everything as designed, yes. Can you still play your old world? Probably.

How will XP work?
The basic concept is you do things and earn xp, and once you level up you can choose a perk which gives you enhanced capabilities.

Can I make a fan site and use 7 Days to die screenshots or images on my site?

You'll see in the upper-left corner that I have some deaths. In order to fast travel to my different spawn points, I empty my toolbelt and suicide. You just make sure that you select the sleeping bag that you want to start at on your map.
