Day 25, the western entrance to my bunker...

Day 23, playing with TNT...

You'll see in the upper-left corner that I have some deaths. In order to fast travel to my different spawn points, I empty my toolbelt and suicide. You just make sure that you select the sleeping bag that you want to start at on your map.

so it looks like you can go pretty big without needing to add supports? I was afraid to dig too far without supports.

another question - I got a chainsaw and drill and used them for a little bit howver now they won't do anything. They make noise, but don't cut/drill.
I was thinking they might need gas from the gas cans, but I can't figure out how to refuel them if that is the case.

Yep, underground has been stable. I've blown up the walls pretty high and haven't had a single cave-in.

Make sure the gas cans are on your tool belt while you're using the chainsaw.

It may be bugged though, because I've only been able to get the auger to re-fuel half of the time.

Edit: To clarify, it should automatically refuel. The same way that ammo/guns work.

7d2d the water feature is broken, i empty one bucket on the second floor and a gigantic blob of water ends up flooding a room and a half and stay on top of metal trussing

upcoming alpha 2 with the flying beetles sounds stupid, last thing to be afraid of during zee zombie apocalypse

Well, alpha has been out for a week so I would get used to things not working like they should.

I like the idea of flying beetles, and block melters and anything else they dream up. The more variety the better, in my opinion. Nothing but slow, dumb zombies would get old pretty quick. There will be many more factors to consider in base construction.

i dunno, i have enough trouble with the zombies as they are now. although I guess thats because they are bugged and know exactly where you are. supposed to fix that in alpha 2. if the beetles/bees or whatever are non-aggressive then thats fine with me.

Everyone stop playing this great game?

Alpha 7 was just released over the weekend, and they quickly released a 7.1 patch to provide more game options and fix a few bugs.

I only started playing the game with Alpha 6 and am having a great time with it.

Alpha 7 added the first phase of terrain smoothing (so the hills dont look blocky and you can actually walk up hillsides instead of having to jump little steps) and added loot & crafting timers. Not everyone likes having these timers so they provided options to disable them or adjust them. They also added a sneaking system so you can sneak around zombies at night. BTW zombies no longer make a bee-line to you at night with new Alpha, just there is bigger spawns at night and if you make noise/cook/craft you may make noise loud enough for them to sense you then they go for you.

It's really fun!

I am playing it and loving it! I haven't played since alpha 1 but alpha 7 is amazing. A vast improvement. I am hanging out at spillway lake making a fortress.

Nice, I have not tried a lake fort yet. Are the zombies smart enough to hit your walls when in water in Alpha 7? I know that was an 'exploit' in one of the earlier alphas from what I read.

I am currently using an underground base and it took my some time to get deep enough so that when I mine and craft I do not attract any attention from the zombies above. However I am not deep enough to eat Venison stew yet! They sense that shit from a mile away lol!

And when these guys sense me, they start actually tunneling down to me!

Oh that's another improvement in Alpha 7 I forgot to mention above, mining changed so now the ores are not just dotted randomly in stone but ore is found only within gravel nodes which I guess are randomly dispersed around the underground within the stone layers. So you may end up digging through lots of empty stone until you hit an area of gravel, and within this gravel area is where you may find actual iron ore veins. There is no more specific lead/coal/potassium nitrate ore now either, they are random bi-products from iron ore mining.

love the game, but it can frustrate you pretty badly at times. I had a hoe (very early game) no guns or anything else, went to a roof.. 2 fat zombiesand about 6 misc zombies followed. Killed they all but one fat one, Hoe still had "hits" left.. hit him 38 times till hoe was done.. would not die, respawned (normally I die, game over) but I had to see this again. got a melee (knife) use all hits on him.. died again.. got a club? again.. hit him till the "hits' were gone.. Indestructable.. I know its just a glitch, but you hit it 1 minute in.. frustrating.

land looks much better, but yesterday's indestructible zombie soured me.. be back in tonight im sure, to check the other changes.

That might not of been a glitch. As you use tools they get worse and worse and you were using a hoe. By the time it broke it would have been only doing 50% damage. Still, the knife should of killed him. I have found a zombie nurse who took around 12 hits to kill while others died in 2. A glitch I guess.

My base isn't in the water but it does touch it. I believe they fixed the zombie ai water glitch in alpha 5 but I may be wrong. Zombies aren't much of a problem any more but food is becoming a massive one. I can survive maybe another 5 days but I can't figure out how to farm. I ran out of potato seeds trying. Every time it glitches and the potatoes disappear. I place dirt next to water and then till the dirt, then I place the seeds. After about 2-20 seconds the seed just vanishes. Any help?

My base is getting more complex each day. It is mainly wood and dirt but it is slowly getting upgraded to brick and cobblestone. I have many moats, ditches, spikes, walls and a tower. The main weakness is an area where zombies can just walk around some water to get in but they don't seem to like doing that much. I still don't have any guns and rely on stone axes to kill zombies. I need to fix the food problem and fortify my base before I go on looting runs for guns and supplies.

Not sure if it's a glitch. I would first wonder what your stamina is. Your stamina has a HUGE effect on the damage you inflict and also affects how well you dig/mine. Make sure you are well hydrated so your stamina bar is full and then fight zombies, and take short breaks here and there if you find stamina draining too fast.

Also yes a garden hoe is not a great weapon. My favorite melee weapon is actually the easiest one to get. All you need is a stick. Turn it into a sharpened stick. Equip that as a weapon. It doesn't swing quickly however it has great range and great damage (aim your crosshairs at zombie heads BTW) and it never loses condition (I guess they never added that attribute to it). I knock out some zombies 1 hit with it when full stamina, usually 2 hits. The bloated zombies take 6-7 hits - they are the toughest zombies I guess.

I just started my first farming and I had difficulty at first but now I got the hang of it.

For my fields I walled off a small 6x5 area of dirt with 2 block high log cabin wood blocks, placed a ladder on one side and put up some torches so zombies dont spawn inside. For my first field I dug a small trench inside and dumped water in it but I really dont think you need water based on my newest field which I skipped the water trench part.

I think the trick is, have the hoe in one quick slot, seeds in another, and do your jobs alternating instead of tilling everything then planting everything next. Till one tile by right clicking on the ground with the hoe equipped, and right click a couple of times (dont worry using a hoe for tilling doesnt damage condition unless you swing at things with it) You want to make sure you see a light grayish brown area with a darker brown spot in the middle - that darker brown spot is the spot you need to plant your seed. Equip the seed and right click at the center of the brown spot and you should be good to go.

Now never walk over that spot again or you will destroy your plant. This is also why I wall it off so zombies or animals dont walk over it either because they can destroy it too.

[EDIT] should also add, it may sound like a 6x5 area is pretty small garden, but that's really plenty of space especially for one crop (I have separate walled gardens for each crop). The reason is you can go every day to harvest plants (they mature at different rates so dont expect to come at one time and harvest everything at same time). And on top of that, once a plant is set you never have to replant it again unless you destroy it by walking over it. Harvesting plant puts food in your inventory and resets the plant back to seedling. Venison stew BTW is the best bang for your buck food - it requires 1 corn, 1 potato, 1 venison meat and 1 bottled water and it refills your food & water bars by like 75%!

My plan is to make a new fortified farming section in the daylight and then afterwards go to the large corn field. Then I will try farming again.
