Sadly enough I can kinda understand this guy's basic impulses, I could have directly related to them a decade ago. I was extremely sheltered growing up, which leads to an expectation of sheltering. You feel the world owes you stuff because whatever you needed/wanted has always been provided (usually by parents) for as long as you can remember. Likewise your only real experience "earning" anything is to do a half-ass job and then someone else completes it for you, but you get the reward. So half-assing is psychologically associated with being the best, and when the world proves you otherwise you feel denied what is rightfully yours. Said sheltering also leads to social maladjustment and subsequent social isolation. I was never a racist, but I came up with plenty of equivalently stupid excuses as to why others were succeeding socially and I was all but completely isolated. Feelings of severe inferiority and wanting to cry sound all too familiar as well.

But I was never home-schooled, I never had a mental disorder beyond depression, and I had at least been socially and morally exposed (if not prepared) to the point where I had a bare-bones functional framework to build myself up on over the years. This guy sounds like he was about 5x more sheltered than I was plus Asberger's syndrome or some type of mild autism. Hard to see how he couldn't go nuts to be honest.

I read through the manifesto and got a little of that vibe. He HATED women and talked about how muscular and masculine some of the "popular" guys who got them were. He never actually approached girls, which was odd given his claimed desire for them.

Finally, the same way he talked about his Armani clothes, his BMW, or any other status symbol, was how he talked about acquiring a woman. The ultimate beard of sorts, especially when he trashed the "pig looking" girls some of his roommates slept with. He was only interested in the girls who provided him some level of status while at the same time being openly (within the manifesto) disgusted by them.

Hatred and sexual desire aren't mutually exclusive, and hating on muscular and extroverted guys is very common among beta types. So maybe he sees women as nothing more than an object or status; considering that he harbored only hatred for them, that wouldn't be surprising. Doesn't mean he's attracted to men though.

Well it seemed similar to his desire to win the Megamillions, which he went into great detail and length with in his manifesto. He didn't want it as much as he wanted others to see he had it, be it money, cars or women. I'm sure his upper class lifestyle contributed to his sense that women should be handed to him, for sure. But overall his desire for "hot blondes" and "models" seemed to be a sense of validation from others instead of a true desire for himself.

Those guys get girls because they want girls, and will sleep with anything in pursuit of attaining women. They don't pause for a second to thing of how others will view the quality of their conquest because they are too busy conquering. Because they actually want the woman.

Again, I'm not saying the kid was gay. His mental health issues probably overshadow most any other portion of himself. But there are reasons to think that his sexuality and inability to cope with it, muchless accept it, could have been another factor in his depression.

Again, I don't necessarily think he is gay. I'd say much more likely that he wasn't than was. Slogging through all 100+ pages of his views on women was telling of his social awkwardness. He seemed motivated to one up other guys who were getting girls as opposed to simply being motivated to get girls for himself.

Even if he was just supremely introverted (which he clearly was) that doesn't typically conclude that he would become obsessed with getting girls just for show. Many introverts I have encountered fixate on one "perfect" person that consumes them privately. In his manifesto he never tends to pin down or name any singular girl that he likes.

Obviously he deviates from the norm, so any number of other issues could be in play in pushing his mind in those directions. It just wouldn't surprise me if he were gay though we'll never know that. There has always been a strong correlation (correlation /= causation) between narcissism and homosexuality in the study of psychology. We can at least all agree in this thread this kid was extremely narcissistic.

This is even more interesting as the shooter's manifesto was littered with commentary about how life never gave him any advantages and how much easier everyone else had things. He was born into wealth, worked two days in his life, quitting both jobs immediately, driving around in a BMW, getting money from parents and grandparents and traveling the globe.

I think it is fair to say if he grew up in Chicago or Detroit, or at least spent a good time in bad areas, he might not have felt so slighted by life.

If I had to guess, he wants them because they validate his inflated sense of worth. He doesn't consider them as people with wants or desires but rather as objects or rather accessories... like his precious Gucci sunglasses or gold necklace. I highly doubt that it has anything to do with his sexuality or something like that.
