Since I read LRC almost every day and have done so for the past few years, I was opposed to this since the beginning... I knew what Obama was up to. Fortunately, that number has grown to 70%.

Unfortunately, nothing can be done about it.

Link (Rand Paul's facebook page brought it to my attn)

I don't think we should arm those rebels either. Damn, I hate it when I'm in the majority opinion.

Count me as one of the 70%. There's less theoretical gain from arming the rebels than there is from enacting Obamacare.

Best case scenario we end up with another Afghanistan, putting weapons into the hands of our enemies to fight a larger enemy. The difference is in Afghanistan we were fighting the Soviets for world dominance. We'd be fighting Assad for.. what exactly? To get another paid off "ally" in the region that takes our money, weapons, calls themselves our ally and repays us by sheltering known terrorists?

We already have Saudi Arabia for that, and they have more oil.

Well you could vote a straight 3rd party ticket (not a single Republican/Democrat). Yeah I know they're crazies but so are the Republicrats but at least they'd be disjointed and crazy instead of working together to do evil.

When you see discord amongst the troops of your enemy, be of good courage; but if they are united, then be upon your guard. When you see contention amongst your enemies, go and sit at ease with your friends; but when you see them of one mind, string your bow, and place stones upon the ramparts.

This will surely hurt Obama's reelection chances...
Opps...

Now that he's no longer running for office, he can do whatever he wants. Who would impeach him over Syria?

I'm in with 70%.

I will also mention that I still want to know what we (i.e., the CIA and ambassador Stevens) were doing in Benghazi. I'm concerned that we might have been shipping Libyan S.A.M.'s to Syrian rebels.

I would rather spend the money here at home. as someone else said we don't have money for air traffic controllers or to open the white house to visitors?

Our government has never learned one lesson from any internal war they have stuck our noses into. They are like Wile E. Coyote only it's not funny.

we should be sending guns to syria, we just need to be sending them to the syrian government, not the terrorists

Is Assad even a larger enemy?

I mean sure he uses chemical weapons, but at least he doesn't engage in cannibalism. What kind of world does Obama live in where eating your enemy is on the "good" side of human rights?

Have we learned nothing from Iraq or Afghanistan? Honestly, the perpetual stupidity of this country sometimes amazes me. In the global theater, the enemy of our enemy is not our friend.

I think the slippery slope argument is valid in this case... because what's the next step?

what if the weapons aren't enough. is the government willing to say "well, we tried, sorry guys;" or is taking a stand against Assad committing us to their cause, meaning we'll have to escalate support if the weapons delivery doesn't result in Assad being removed from power?

Well I have to imagine it wouldn't be good for us if Assad stays in power after we have sided with the rebels. Seems like he would be hard to deal with if he wins.

I chalk it up to the remnants of Cold War mentality. Most of our politicians grew up with a perpetual bogey man, and naturally assume one will always be there. Soviets went the way of the dinosaur, and they're reflexively struggling to shove terrorists into the empty slot.

Looks pretty much like we're screwed either way. If Assad stays in power, he'll be completely beholden to the Russians, Iranians and other unsavory groups. If the rebels overthrow him, we'll likely have another islamo-nutcase fundie jihadist factory, just like when we helped the taliban/al qaeda against the Soviets.

Good thing we have a great leader with great vision to navigate through these dangerous waters. Oh wait......

What makes you think they haven't learned? They've learned very well. They've learned they can keep the military industrial complex going full steam ahead and Americans won't care. They've learned that despite all the outrage, nobody votes out the incumbent. They've learned that they can lie to us and we won't do anything.

You think arming the rebels in some shithole country has anything to do with the people of that country? It's all about money and power.

who are these 30%? i'm not buying this poll...

20% of America would agree to anything, and 10% are working in DC or the defense industry?

I think something like 25% of people approved of Bush at the end of his term.

The 30% is probably those who are blindly loyal to Obama + those who blindly approve of all military intervention(*cough* McCain *cough*)
