well ugh. I'm pc tech smart, but I'd rather see what other people would piece for me.

www.newegg.com (or other desired site)

I was wondering if someone(s) could piece together a godo (AMD BASED) system. Full computer minus the video card and memory. I have the 6800GT OC.

I can afford $600-$700, so I should have a pretty good machine going.

I'll need everything from case to dvd/rw/r. (HD, mobo, power, sound). DFI boards liked for overclocking, but others that you know of i'll look at..

much appreciated

Is your existing 6800gt agp or pci-e? What kind of memory do you already have?

How much storage space do you need?

apologies for my ignorance.

AGP

my memory is Corsair (valueselect meh) pc3200 2x512 (1gig)

Storage would be fine with just 1 HD of 100-300gigs, which ever is best in the end for money spent

I wouldn't want you to, just helping me with that information is more than enough. I'll look up everything. I just have one question - I'm not up-to-date with new chips..amd 3000 venice. what's the 'venice' mean. is it 64bit / venice is like barton core (IE)?

if you dont plan on using alot of hd space, dont get a 7200.8 250gb... just get something like 120 or 160 or maybe even lower (from seagate)

venice core is great for oc'n, 3000+ or 3200+ are good deals

guessing you are going to oc, get the dfi lanparty ultra-d w/ nf4 chipset, great for oc'n

If you link something, put what it is in the link text.

I didn't look at the second setup ,but the first one is excellent. I would definitely suggest you get the Neo2 platinum if you plan to OC, as it is a great OC'ing board. You alos might want to go with the 3200+ to get the 10x multiplier. It can really be helpful when OC'ing.

I'm using Newegg, just because it's a "standard". I'm showing a 754 option, simply because you have an existing AGP card, and I personally feel it's pointless to go 939 if you have an AGP card.

CPU
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ ClawHammer/Hammer Integrated into Chip FSB 1MB L2 Cache Socket 754 Processor Retail - $264.00

Motherboard
DFI LANPARTY UT nF3 250Gb ATX AMD Motherboard - $103.00

DVD
NEC Black IDE DVD Burner Model ND-3540A - $48.00

HD
Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 200gb 3.5" Serial ATA150 Hard Drive - $108.00

Case
Antec Life Style SONATA Piano Black 0.8mm SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 380W Power Supply - $89.99
comes with a quality 380w psu, and it's quiet

Total = $612.99

The 3700 will OC to 2.7 failrly easily, many people will still tell you to go 939, o well.

Wow that's impressive. Do you mean on air? Can you provide any links to this feat? This is a clawhammer core, which I know little about. I do know that newcastles can get to 2500mhz on air with a good cooler and good case airflow.

?

People were telling him to get a "venice core" A64, therefore socket939. The Lanparty doesnt come w/ AGP socket939 nforce4.
