This is impressive. Sadly, it's still a Chrysler vehicle and I am not willing to give that company my money. =/

They certainly didn't when I bought mine back in 2011. They came with the atrocious GY Eagle F1 Supercar tires.

Were those an options? Because it still says 245's come stock on the srt on their website.
Gm stuck 315's on the z28, i wonder if this is going to match the z28's handling, but im not holding my breath.

Looks like it's a $150 option now. I think it was standard back then, but I can't remember. It's they're still skinny. Only 255 in the rear. Of course my 662 hp gt500 only has 285 width tires I believe it was.

The tires on the GC SRT8 are 295/45, either Pirelli Scorpion, or optional P-Zero.

i'm impressed ... 10.85 @ 126.18 mph is pretty darn good for a stock car these days

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYol7m3WjGQ

Trap speed with drag radials and a company provided video is 1 MPH slower than the trap speeds that some GT500 drivers got on their crappy stock goodyear eagle f1 supercar G2s.... Obviously, ET was about .4s better on the radials, but that should give you an idea of the performance of its biggest strength (challengers, especially automatics have always fared far better at drag racing than at anything else) compared to a 2 year old ford with a manual and awful drag racing gearing if you know much about drag races.

impressive nonetheless ... and they were on NT555R's "drag radials" ... hardly a drag radial. now if they were on NT05r's, that'd be a different story

p.s. i know some very good manual drivers ... ranger for example has gone 10.7's in a bone stock c6z06 w/ just drag radials.

Granted, but there is a world of difference between those and F1 supercars (the gt500 stock tire).

Yes, but all things being equal, the automatic car is typically going to be at an advantage in a drag race due to the far easier and consistent launching.

Specially the 8 speed ZF. I'll take that over any manual.

Not really, no. The advantage is from launching. requiring more shifts does not make a better drag car.

Do you know how many gears purpose built drag cars use? If I recall correctly it is 2. If it were beneficial to add in a bunch of shifts, don't you think they would?

edit: oops. I looked it up. Things like top fuel dragsters don't have a tranny at all. Just a clutch.

The advantage is from torque multiplication and a high stall. Impossible to load up the transmission to 1500 or 3000 rpms with a manual and not stall the car out. A modern auto will have a lower total amount of time shifting through a couple gears than a typical human will have with just the 1-2 shift. I believe the ZF is rated around 200 milliseconds.

Meh, still an ugly car......it's no GT500. I'm sure a pulley swap and a tune on a GT500 would put it north of 700hp easily......still for far less than the Challenger will cost no doubt.

I am guessing the Challenger to come in around no less than 70k

I love wretched excess! It's an American Icon. They should offer an all chrome option.

Yeah, you don't see that in other places like the Royal Family, all of Monaco, Saudi princes or a third world dictator. I'm sure I could go on about how wide spread wretched excess is around the world. Mind you that Bentley, Rolls Royce, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche, and all the 500+ HP AMG, S6/8 and M-Series common from outside the US. Yep, no excess there.

And then we can tune the Hellcat...

I know this. I am talking price point only. The Challenger is going to come in over priced. I only meant that you can achieve these numbers easily with a $56k car and maybe $500 in mods.

I'm really just knocking Chrysler for fun.
