Ok, I never thought it would be priced that low. To me, that says Chrysler is getting aggressive in the market and I like it. I'd love to see this end up in the grand Cherokee.

They said they are going to keep doing the SRT GC. I do wonder though if they may keep the Hellcat to the Dodges though.

Now all we need to complete the cycle is a $60k ZR1. Huge affordable power from the big 3.

I can appreciate all the mopar haters, but you have to give it to dodge driving a stake into these outrageously priced cars. IMHO, by them pricing the hellcat like this, it shoves a big middle finger up the asses of the rest of Detroit! It's challenging them to play the price and power game all over again.

This is just a continuation of what they've been doing starting in 2011. There's more coming. Mopar is on a roll.

I believe Ford started this trend with the Shelby

Why exactly? Or have you bought in to the "herp derp pushrods suck" hype? The produce different characteristics, but certainly aren't inferior. You get less power per liter of displacement (which is an utterly meaningless metric unless you buy insurance in one of the backwards countries that bases it on displacement). You (typically, but not necessarily. LT1 seems to do ok mileagewise) get worse mileage. You typically get more power and torque in a given physical volume as well as a lighter, lower center of gravity engine.

It's all about what is important for a given application, but frankly, pretending that an OHV engine is automatically inferior to an OHC engine is pure ignorance.

Your "preaching to the choir", as I drive a pushrod GM and have no problems with it's performance, yes at 3.5L 200HP is a low number but it reaches max torque (228) at 3K RPM whereas an OHC will take longer to get there. Typically in real-world driving conditions you need the quick torque response a lot more often than the extra 50-55HP that an OHC design offers and I average 22MPG city 32 MPG highway, you would be hard pressed to find an 3.5L OHC engine that delivers that kind of economy. Sadly GM decided (shockingly!) to save cost by coupling it to a 4-speed auto when 5-6 speed trannys have been available for years, this would have probably dropped it's 0-60 time of 7.6 a full second or so. Now GM has issued 3 recalls for my vehicle and have yet to mail me anything and it's been 3+ months since the first one (power steering) was issued, sad GM, sad..

I disagree. I think GM started it with the LS1 and it's all been brewing between the big three since.

You mean ZL1? If so, then I stand corrected. I forgot about that.....but even still, it's under 600hp

No, not ZL1, I mean the good old touched by the hand of god LS1 that started a lot of these horsepower wars. Without he LS1 coming into the Corvette, Firebird and Camaro, Ford likely wouldn't have come out with the revamped 5.0 motor nor spent as much time revamping the Mustang. After the Mustang started to take off, GM came back with the revamped Camaro then Chrysler had to get into the mix win the Charger and Challenger. Now Chrysler just decided to throw up a big FUCK YOU to Ford and GM by throwing down their nuts right on the table and telling them to kiss it.

really hard for me to think of mopar after the dark ages of maintenance. I saw way too many low miles dodges literally fall apart in 20k miles worse than a Kia from the same period.

I know they have done a ton and I am Italian and can aprreciate the work fiat has done in restructuring but I am still hesitant to consider them with my money.

I agree with the LS1 starting the HP wars. Its the new SBC and has spawned so much love people put them in mustangs lol!

Anecdotally nicest Fox body I ever saw had a LS and it screamed!

No engine has more low hanging fruit power wise fore or since.

I'm pushing 45k miles on my 2012 Charger and not one issue. Everyone else I know who has bought a Chrysler after 2011 has similarly had zero issues.

I don't think the Hellcat is a very big Fuck You to Ford. Ford has its big boy

106k on my 2006 Charger. Tie-rods being the only issue besides normal wear and tear. And I drove it fairly hard for the first 50k.

Same. Just replaced my Tie Rods on my 2005 Mustang. That is the only repair the car has needed. Hell, I just replaced my first light bulb about 2 months ago.

I disagree, 707 factory warrantied HP for 60k in my mind is a giant fuck you to just about everyone. It will get even more interesting if they put it in the SRT Grand Cherokee. Hell, I'd like to see them bring back an SRT Ram too.

Afaik, nobody else offers an off the showroom floor power level like this. I believe this will get Ford and GM both to play in the power wars again and we get or reap the rewards.

I love wretched excess! It's an American Icon. They should offer an all chrome option.

You get it.
No one is going to drive this thing at it's limit. Most aren't capable of using half of it's potential, but thats not what sells it. Conspicuous consumption is what it's all about.

You can't really believe that 662hp isn't in the same ballpark as 707....also the Shelby is less expensive. And the torque numbers are quite comparable.

If I were a betting man, out of the showroom and onto the track, the Hellcat would be outperformed.

exactly, it's all about the marketing. You can bet your bottom dollar that Ford went back to engineering and said squeeze at least 725 out of the next motor. They'll kick the price to 61k and toss it out there with 725 to be the new king. We can only hope GM comes in and says WAHOO here's 750!! Then the battles are ON LIKE DONKEY KONG!

What this means is that 2020 or so if the EPA and CAFE laws don't screw me over I could a 550-600HP beast for $45k or less.

Yeah, but then in a month or so, every 750hp car that GM releases will be recalled.
