Lego tie interceptor for $69.99 on a clearance rack. It normally retails for $99.99.

At your local TRU store

This is not the ordinary Tie fighter however, but the one Darth Vader uses

Your both wrong. The TIE Advanced didn't come until after Vader and was never even seen in the movies. Darth Vader flew a prototype for the TIE Interceptor. There is really no special name for his TIE. Either way Star Wars and Legos rock!

It's just the personal craft of Vader. But if you look at it, it's not a prototype of Tie Int, more likely the proto of Tie Adv. But this is all after the movie talk....who knew what's going on in Lucas' head that time.

Vader flew a prototype of the TIE Advanced. His was different from the regular TIE Advanced, but it was the precursor to it.

It's really the Prototype of Tie Advanced. If you think about it, Tie Interceptors were already operational soon after the first Death Star battle. Tie Advanced were only in field test stage, but Lord Vader just had to fly his toy.

Ahem......sad ain't it? all talks about the fighter, none about if this is a good deal.

Nah...if I remember correctly, Vader's TIE was a single-pod version of the TIE bomber (which can be seen in ESB)

If I remember correctly, Vader had a CLIP-ON BOW TIE for his cape. They tried hours and hours to use a regular BOW TIE, but it always ended up looking goofy. Lucas finally gave up and told one of the pee-ons to run to K-mart and buy a BLACK CLIP-ON TIE, and the rest is Star Wars history!

"Vader sat at the controls of his own customized fighter. Unlike the standard TIE, Vader's had larger, angular wings. The rear engine was considerably longer, and the support struts connecting the cockpit ball to the wings were much thicker than standard." -Starwars.com databank

Just to comment, Vaders TIE also possessed a hyperdrive - which is why the rear engine was larger and how he managed to escape after the destruction of the death star.

"The tie advance is based on a design from Lord Vader. Equipped with fast-recharging shields and an extended Twin Ion Engine Capacity, this new ship should out-speed the Rebel X-wing and will provide safety for its pilot within the shiled array. In addition, the production models of the TIE Advance feature a hyperdrive motivator unit --the first of the TIE fighter line to have this capibility.

The superiority of this newest TIE starfighter is such that TIE pilots are already giving it the nickname "TIE Avenger," as it is widely held that the TIe Advance represents an opportunity for redemption after the Rebel's treachery at Yavin."

More specs if requested...

If you have been playing the game "TIE Fighter", then would have seen a cutscene where a bunch of TIE advances were killing target xwings on a platform station in a demonstration to vader and some admiral.

Darth Vader's TIE was a prototype for the TIE Advanced. As was stated already he had a hyperdrive and was therefore able to escape from the destroyed Death Star, and he also had shields.

Darth Vader's TIE fighter is dramatically different from the standard TIE to allow moviegoers to instantly recognize it in battle. Although featured in computer games and comics, thus far the TIE Advanced has only appeared in one movie, A New Hope. -Starwars.com databank.

Agreed Vaders was the proto-type for the Tie-Advanced! But as far as arguing, hey it is just a discussion I am nerd at times and proud of it

Oh, there's a distinct line between movie afficionado and nerds.

I always though it was a Tie Bomber too. Maybe modified. Maybe I just got that from the trench run in X-Wing? I think X-Wing only has Interceptors and not Advances. If you look at it's specs in Tie Fighter, the TFA is simply UNSTOPPABLE. I love the X-Wing and all but the TFA is MUCH better.

Actually, the next step of Tie Advanced research gave birth to TIE DEFENDER (Defender of the Empire, an addon for TIE FIGHTER, ). With three solar panels, now those guys were truly unstoppable, but I don't think they were ever "official" Lucas material. Speaking of which........there's also the Tie Phantom, a cloaked Tie fighter with 3 ventral fin like pannels....wicked!

OK....now more techno info on the Tie Family than you wanted to know.
