It's been a long time since I've seen a HD "sale". A few months ago it seemed like HDs were on sale every day....but lately it's gotten quiet. Actually, that goes for all hardware. I wonder if the retailers aren't holding off until the holidays?

Regardless, this looks like a decent deal. Even better with Bing cashback.

I'm thinking about buying one of these, buying a copy of W7 next week and sticking them both in my old 939 AMD system and calling it an upgrade.

Let me know if there are better HD deals I'm not seeing.

While I don't consider 12% "shocking", it is a good deal.

As far as an upgrade for your S939 system, I'd say no.

This drive is plenty quick, but "green" really means 5400rpm. Don't believe any hype that the speed varies between 7200-5400rpm. Impossible, and misleading advertising IMO. More here.

As a back-up, yes. But...

To run my fresh install of Win7, I'd get a WD Black drive of some kind.

Who said the speed is variable in real time. It's variable for the model, meaning some drives come as 5400RPM some maybe 5800RPM, etc. Whatever the highest speed allows it to stay within set power consumption requirements (for Green series). That said, this drive is still only good for storage of large files (movies, iso images, etc) and backup.
