WD 120GB 7200RPM at Best Buy for $300 with a $100 MIR.
Found the drive using Pricewatch.com for $175. Use AMEX PM and get the drive for $25.

$300
-$100 MIR
-$125 AMEX
=$75

I've talked to AMEX in the past and they will match the drive for you even if it is OEM. I know a lot of people say that they won't, but they have done it for me twice. They say they don't care as long as the drives are the same drives, meaning 120GB WD. You can go ahead and call first to clear it with them. Get the reps name and you should be fine.

PS - For those of you who remember reading my post for a $5 80GB drive using double price matching with CompUSA, Best Buy, and AMEX Blue...I just wanted to let you know that it worked like a charm. AMEX mailed the PM and I ended up getting the drive for $5 as well as many of my friends. Too bad the mods decided to lock the thread because of a lot of nay saying!!!

This really isn't on topic with the drive deal, but just to let you guys know, I've PM'd a retail CPU I bought with an OEM version price and there was also no problem with AmEx.

If you read the fine print on the AMEX Blue agreement, it says "Any item purchased from a store that already has an established lowest price gurantee program will not be covered" Additionally, the agreement states the other exclusions apply and there's a complete list of items not covered.

since Best Buy does have a price-match policy...does this mean AMEX considers purchases from BB as not "covered."

Again from the AMEX Blue agreement, "If you see a covered item advertised in print for less within 60 days of the purchase date, we'll refund the difference to your account, up to $250."

i'm reading this from the agreement i just got in the mail last week. i got a Blue card just for this reason, but i'm not going to jump on a supposed deal if i'm not sure i'll get my money back. is this one of those YMMV areas?

if anyone has gotten this to work...please post

I applied for an American Express Blue today after reading your post. The gentleman working at American Express stated the policy is called the "Best Value Guarantee" and it only applies to a printed add, such as what you would find in your Sunday paper. Several people evidently have been able to price match items found on the internet, however if they begin to enforce their written policy they it will end very quickly.

I specifically called amex BVG to ask them whether they will PM online stores and the CS said yes as long as you send them the printed webpage showing the price.

Any deals on applying for an amex blue?

Also, are these cards decent replacements for a regular credit card (low interest, etc)?

Doesn't amex need the vendor's website listing with a date? From my experience more pricewatch vendors don't have the same price on their actual website or they don't have a date on it.

I pricematched my Gforce3 Ti 200 down to $99 from BB with Amex without a problem.

The RETAIl version of this drive is ~$200 elsewhere; This would still be a good deal at $100 for 120GB, no?

You can get a Retail Drive for about $209 as well, but I didn't want to post that because that has already been posted.

Everyone here really freaks out about this whole Price Matching stuff with AMEX. If you are so worried, just keep the drive sealed and you will get your AMEX PM before the 30-day return period. It usually takes about 2 weeks for them to send it. They will PM with BB like I said, they will PM with any web price that you give them. You just need to make sure that the date on the print out is later than the date you purchased the drive. They do not need to go onto the website to confirm the price because they know that the prices change all the time and they will match it with the price you have on the print out.

Feel free to PM with any questions or concerns you may have. I have a lot of AMEX PMing experience and can answer most questions.

And just to state again for all those Non-believers before...$5 WD 80GB Drive...is this getting annoying yet?

Hi. I had a bad experience with AMEX. Bought the 120 GIG when it was $300 with $100 rebate at compusa. Tried to price match BB who had lowered the price to $199. They denied my claim because compUSA had it's own pricematch policy.

Then I tried to PM to an OEM make, and they denied it because it was OEM and not retail.

What if you find something cheaper after the 14 day period when the stores will pricematch. In that case just wait 15 days to call AMEX.

<< i don't have income to get American Express Blue >>

you dont need to have income to apply for the Blue, i think you only need to have credit history ( student card etc.) well, i got my blue and i dont have income neither. plus they have a student blue now, but i am not sure if they lets you price match on that one.

You can't pricematch with Student Blue, at least that's how it was the last time I checked.

How long do you have to have American Express Blue for Students before AMEX will approve a regular Blue card? I have had the Student card cince October 2001. I have never held a balance of more than 100 dollars at the end of a billing cycle as I transfer money online from other bank accounts as soon as the charge shows up. As a matter of fact, I've had a positive balance at the end of half my billing cycles due to returns. I make many charges usually averaging about 1000 a month. They said I would be eligible for a credit increase after 6 months. Does this mean I may be eligible for the Blue card too?

this is WRONG

I'm speaking from a voice of experience (bad experience that is)

I applied for this card and got rejected solely on these grounds

"American Express does not offer their services to debtors w/ an annual income of less than $20,000/year" Just so that youall don't go gettin' your panties in a wad over this, I'm sure some of you have made it and GOT this card w/o making a dime, but I put my annual income down as what it was @ the time which was less than $20G's and they sent me a VERY clear rejection typewritten in Blue and White. This was the single reason that they rejected me (the first time). Now I'm getting rejected on something else...I don't even know what...

It seems a bit ridiculous to me that I can be graduated from college, have a full time job, NEVER have had a single bad credit rating, and NOT be able to get this card. I don't understand...ahh well.

Do you have a GOOD credit rating though? I've heard stories before of people who earn a decent income, or even quite a bit of money, yet because they have no credit cards or oustanding debts get rejected for various things based on their (non-existant) credit history. The advantage of a student credit card (in theory anyway) is that it allows you to build a credit history when you have none to begin with while minimizing the issuer's risk of your defaulting (since it is assumed that your parents will (have to) bail you out)..

the topic of this thread drifts...

I got Blue on my third application. My first one was rejected because I did not have enough credit history. My second rejection was because of income, the same rejection that Tanner got. However, my third one went through.
