754 motherboard dillema

on jpeyton's excellent buyer's guide he recommends the EPoX 8KDA3+ NForce3 250Gb Motherboard for the 754 chipset, my problem... it doesn't have firewire, i suppose i could get a card latter or when i eventually get an audigy zs (but i have to get my video card and some other things first).

what moherboard do i go with?

i think i want it to have the nforce3 250 chipset.

these are the coices i see at newegg:

MSI nForce3 250 Chipset Motherboard for AMD Athlon 64 Socket 754 CPU, Model "K8N Neo Platinum"
(this was the original board i was going with because of the great reviews but i've read so many horror stories in regards to msi, i'm a little leary).

ASUS "K8N-E Deluxe" NVIDIA nForce3 Chipset Motherboard

CHAINTECH "ZNF3-250 PRO ZENITH" nForce3 250 Chipset Motherboard

of course if any of you can think of some other board please let me know.

I have the MSI and it's rock solid stable. It is however the first and only MSI board I've worked with, but it's definatley more stable than my wife's Soltek board. As for Epox, I had their KT266 board, ran for 2 years w/ zero issues. I would recommend the nForce chipset though, it's been very slick.

I would go with the MSI myself.
I have always used one and iam just about to build an AMD system on s754 with one.

I'd stick with the nForce 3 250GB chipset....so the K8N-E Deluxe

Not just the past. Do a search on the forums. Asus or Gigabyte would be the only ones I would choose from.

Go with the Asus, it's the only board without problems. The MSI has LOADS and the Chaintech has quality control issues (a problem with the MSI also).

My last 3 system builds have used MSI boards, and I have to say, they have been awesome. I've used the K8T Neo and the K8N Neo Platinum boards for my A64 rig and the 865PE Neo for my Intel setup. I've had zero issues with these 3 boards and will probably use MSI mobos for all my future system builds. I highly recommend MSI!

MSI, its a hit or miss. Some people either have problems or dont. Personally, I didnt feel like taking a chance, so I went with an Asus

i'm torn now between the msi and the asus.

the msi gets really good reviews but these forums offer differing views.

the asus reviews are very good too (just not as good as the msi) but i hear less complaints on the boards.

Remember, reviews by hardware sites are a week or less of actual testing. The last four MSI boards I have bought (2) or have installed in anothers PC after they bought a MSI board (2) have all died or became flaky after a few weeks.

Spend the extra money and get an Asus or Gigabyte board. Like I suggested before, do a search on here and see what users have to say. There is an abundance of help me threads concerning MSI boards.
