OR, you could get 10 or 11 dolars worth of something else, apply a different "bargain", "tech"nically speaking, and get it for $139.95+11.00=150.95-$30= $120.95.

buy.com is back ordered on these (least was two days ago)

EDIT: the onvia.com $25 off $100 is great because they have them in stock (supposedly!)

Buy.com is listed as one of the stores that participates MS's Passport 20% off deal. Anyone know if we can use $30 of $150 or $10 of $100 coupons in along with MS Passport's 20%?

IBM 75GXP 45GB OEM = $182.95

$182.95 - 20% ($36.59) = $146.36

+ Using $10 off $100 : $146.36 - $10 =$136.36 + Tax (CA Residents) + Free Shipping = $146.25

OR

+ Using $30 off $150 : $146.36 + $3.99 (CD Jewel Case to get over $150) = $150.35 - $30 = $120.35 + Tax (CA Residents) + Free Shipping = $129.08

This is for the IBM 75GXP 45GB OEM and not the 30GB model. These drives are in stock. This would get great if it could work!

I don't see it either. Could someone please link to where it says that Buy.com is part of the Passport 20% deal?

Is there another list where MS has listed for business participating in the 20% off deal?

I saw Buy.com listed at www.passport.com under "Use your passport at these sites" so I thought they would be part of the 20% off deal. Anyone else know of another list?

I believe all IBM 75GXP's OEM or Retail are ATA-100

difference between retail and oem is that oem is just the drive it self in a brown box. The retail contains and ide cable and software and in a retail box.

I believe IBM does warranty OEM drives.

IBM doesn't warranty OEM drives that it has sold to big companies for use in their systems. For example if HP buys IBM harddrives for their Pavilion systems, IBM will not warranty the harddrive and you would need to look to HP for support.

OEM drives from Buy.com should be fine and IBM should honor the warranties.

Just ordered the 75GXP 30GB drive, 138 + 16 (for a floppy to go over $150) less the $30 new customer coupon that expires tomorrow.

Not bad for $124 shipped and no tax.

Hopefully we won't have any warranty issues to worry about. I have had nothing but IBM drives over the past several years and have never had a failure (may I am just lucky).

IBM does not provide warranty service for OEM - at least that was my experience when I went checking on this last year. I had an IBM drive from a Compaq system - when I entered it's serial number in the IBM site, I got back a message that IBM did not provide warranty service and to contact the OEM. Someone might try to get 'warranty' service on one of these drives and see what happens. Lark

There is nothing on Buy.com page for this HDD which indicates that it is an OEM part. And by Law they do have to specify if the part is OEM. I'm fairly sure buy.com doesn't want a legal battle like all the others that have gone on about mis-marked items on online stores. It would be cheaper for them to replace the drive than to go to court.

I don't think it would come down to that though, Buy.com has always been good about bending there rules for me before.

Lark888, read my post. IBM will not warranty harddrives that large computer companies (HP, Compaq, etc etc) bought and integrated into their systems. The warranty for these drives are provided by the companies themselves. (HP, Compaq, etc etc) The drives buy.com sells are bare drive OEM's which are covered by IBM's warranty.

There are two types of OEM drives.

Large System OEM's
1) Drives bought up by big companies like Gateway, HP, Compaq, Dell, etc to integrate into their computer systems. When they buy the drives from IBM, they get a significant discount because a) they buy in huge quantities and b) they provide the support for the drives and now IBM. These drives are not meant for resale as individual parts as computer companies will not provide you with any warranty or support for the drive if you don't own one of their computers.

Small Business OEM
2) Drives sold to small computer businesses that are the bare drive only without any retail packaging. These are the drives that buy.com carries. They carry IBM's warranty even thought they don't have the retail packaging.

The only real way to check to see if the harddrive is under IBM's warranty you have to get the serial number off the harddrive and run it by IBM. If the drive was one by a Large System OEM, then IBM will let you know what company they sold the harddrives to and to call them for support.
