7600gt question

Hey guys,
Building a new system and making some progress but I am on a budget. I was revising my options as to how I could save some cash and I noticed that the video card was the most expensive component in my rig at $225 for an x1800xt. Now, I know this is a great deal but I also found out, I don't exactly have a huge buget for games though. That means no oblivion, no half life 2 and no call of duty 2. Currently I have Halo, rainbow six, a few need for speed games (among others) and the oppertunity to get Far Cry. (If there are some kind of deals on games, let me know) That being said, I have a few questions:
What games can the 7600gt play at 1600x1080 resolution well? Which can't it?

Can you volt mod a 7600gt and is it the same process as volt modding a 7900gt?

Is the vf700cu enough to cool an oc'd 7600gt?

For ~$150 the 7600gt is a pretty good deal, but is it suffuciant for my purposes? On the same note, is the x1800xt overkill or could I just play every game at its highest video settings?

Games like Half Life 2 and FarCry should be Ok at that resolution, and maybe the others you mention if other settings are tweaked - but that might be down to what framerate your comfortable with. I don't think a volt mod would be worth it with a 7600GT, as even the best OC's I've seen haven't made a great deal of difference. The cooler you mention is popular and would be Ok with that card as it's not a high heat-output producing chip.

I suppose, if funds are really limited as they are, there's no point buying a much faster graphics card if you then can't afford any games!!!! If you had the cash though, the X1800XT would definately be worth it though.

agreed, the X1800XT is a powerful enough card to allow you to play games at max settings for the next year or two. It depends if you want to play new games now, or get a powerful video card and play old games later. Personally I would pick the X1800XT and settle for that, but that's just me.

Funds are not extremely limited, I'm not really buying anything else right now, If I can make a bunch of $$$$ at my summer job, I might be able to up the budget to around $1500 including the monitor. I'm planning on getting the wiewsonic 20.1" widescreen. Is the vf700cu a single slot solution? In other words, does it take up more than one pci slot? If I got the x1800xt, I would definetly go for the vf900cu as I have heard that the vf700cu is insufficiant for the x1800xt. Gouziming, you said that I could play at max settings for the next year or two, what games are going to push that limit in about a year or two? The more I think about it, the more the x1800xt seems like it's worth it. Is it worth it to oc it?

The best way to think of 7600GT is 6800U performance with Transparency AA and improved shader grunt added, but not really enough grunt to truly keep up with 6800U at hi resolutions + AA/AF due to 128 bit bus.

It kinda sucks when you throw on the AA/AF...

X1800xt would be nice tho

7600GT voltmod , the gain
is not shabby and appears to favor the reference type cards.

7600GT shootout article shows the Leadtek as a good oc'er.

but if you have the $$$ the X1800 XT is a great card.
