Hi

My friend bougth a 7600GT sometime back.
HIS SYSTEM
Amd 64bit 3200 Venice 1.40 volt
2 gb dual ch
Asus A8N E
160gb sata II

His performance is crap, if you are talking or perfect/good settings, here goes:
Driver settings probably at max/almost max performance
FEAR:
1024*768,no aa/af, no soft shadows

MW
Not good at 1024*768, 16x af

HL2:Lost Coast
Not that great at 1280*1024,4x aa,16x af

Farcry with Patch 1.3
Not that great at 1024*768

Quake 4
Nothing great either at 1280*1024

Will it run games like Oblivion and Graw at 800*600 med then?

Somethings wrong with your friend's system if he/she can't do Far Cry or Quake 4 at 1280x1024 with everything on...I can do that with my X800XL and the 7600GT is faster than my card.

FarCry, 1024*768, maxed out
Quake 4, 1280*1024, mazed out

But it isn't all that great

BTW his graphic card brand is BIG

Actually his fps are fine, however his actual system performance in my opinion isn't satisfactory from what I would expect from a 7600GT

Those figures are problematic. On my 7600GT I can play FarCry fluidly at 12x9 with settings maxed on 4x/8x AA/AF and Fear at 12x9 no AA/AF high settings minus soft shadows and volumetric lighting.

I tried the GRAW demo and it ran alright...probably around 30-50fps at 10x7 medium-high settings, and I play Oblivion daily at 10x7, although once in a while my framerates will sag into the high teens.

That's on an Opteron 144 @ 2.5 with a gig less memory than that system listed.

The thing is that the fps he gets are fine. But the game doesn't seem fluid/smooth, it is far from perfect and I surely didn't expect such a thing from a 7600GT.
His brand is BIG, yes BIG

FEAR:40-70 at 1280, but the game isn't very playable at best bearable
MW:about40-50, but the game stutters sometimes

I think it has to do with maxing out settings. Some settings will just KILL performance in games and need to be turned off (or down). Since I'm in an inordinately lazy mood this morning I'll just list a couple:

FEAR:

Turn off soft shadows (and possibly volumetric light)

DOOM3/Quake4

Run on High Quality, not Maximum (or whatever it's called).

HL2

If performance isn't so hot at 4X AA / 16X AF, then cut the AA down to 2X and you should get a bit of a boost.

Finally, he may want to do some overclocking on the CPU. Venice chips are great overclockers and that's a pretty decent overclocking board.

2.5 GHZ on the CPU should be a piece of cake; 2.6 GHz should be pretty easy too.

He doesn't want to oc at te moment, more over he has ordinary transcend and not ocer ram.
Also, his system should be capable of max settings

BIG sells NV cards in India. The games he runs are really tough on any card.Turn of softshadows in F.E.A.R. ,and drop AA to 2x to push performance up.

It still sounds like something is wrong to me. I can run HL2 at 1280x960 w/ 4xAA and AF at max detail and the framerates are frighteningly fast (well over 60fps), and i'm running at 6800U (slower than your card). Perhaps the framerate seems jumpy because V-sync isn't on? Lost coast runs slower if you have the HDR enabled, but it should still be smooth.

Quake4 also ran silky smooth for me at 1280x960 at high detail.

HL2:LC with HDR, reflect all, Quality w/ 4xAA transparency/16xAF 12x10 is smooth on my system

specs-X2 3800+@2.6GHZ -2gb@DDR348 2-2-2-10 1T DC - XXX 7600GT@590/1600*stock*

Does drop all the way down to 25fps when in the church and looking@the windows from the side, due to HDR. Other than that mid-30's to 60's with averages in mid 40's. So I can see how a reference speed 7600GT would struggle a little with HDR and that much aa/af and a 2ghz A64, everything@ stock speeds setup.

Half Life Lost Coast with all settings maxed out(HDR also)

Quake 4 at 1280*1024 Ultra High

If his system performs like crap, how will a 7900GT perform?

Has he got onboard sound - that might cause some stuttering? Possibly NVidia drivers for 7600GT aren't quite right at the mo (are they ever? :/ ). Could also be a system memory issue - try running a program called memtest to test for errors? Also, BIOS may need updating, or motherboard chipset drivers may need updating - all could cause stuttering I suppose.

Sounds like the harddrive might not be fast enough? When the game has to go to the HDD for data, you get hardcore stuttering.

First thing first, reinstall the drivers & install the latest for all system components

& what do u mean by great, don't expect 100 frames from that system at such high quality in fear

Install the latest game updates, for all the games, check if there is any overheating component, & most important, weather cool & quite is enabled or not, if it is then try with that disabled

It seems more like a software problem then hardware problem to me

If FEAR is running at 40-70 frames, how come it's not playable

NFS MW stutters, thats a known problem, not your hardware

Don't run quake 4 at Ultra Quality, better if u optimise the game manually with a custom autoexec.cfg file, i did that & squezed a lot of performance from my FX5900XT at 800X600

HL2 lost cost is taxing on system with HDR on, make sure, u have configured it properly

Harddisk is SATA2, it's fast enough

if possible, reinstall Windows & all games, then check, or do a clean install of the games & the NVIDIA drivers

Check to see if the 7600gt is not a cut down version using ddr1. It should be ddr3.

You're going to need to give a little more information about the problem here. You're stating 40FPS, but the game is "unplayable". Unplayable how? What is happening? So far you haven't listed any symptoms of the problem.

The game is running slow, so slow that I'd rather reduce the res than play with a tinkling 40-70fps shown but performacne of 20fps

This has happened with me as well, AOE3 showing 80fps yet being slow

Same here, though the fps are fine, the game is still running slow
