way too hot...mine only gets up to about 55 C under load, even when highly overclocked. Not overclocked, it hovers around 47-50 C.

My 6800gt went up to around 70, I think. I believe it has the same cooling as the 6800nu.

No, its not to hot. Anything under 80 load and under 65 idle is fine.

ntw yours is a pci-e, and maybe that makes a dif... but i don't think so. also its a leadktek, mine's a evga. what does your heatsink look like, the regular 680 one or a better one?

You could but a cheap case for "gaming" with better ventilation. Or mod the pavilion case alittle (blowhole, side fan, etc.")

reversing case fan to blow inward = bad idea...you want to get the hot air out of the case. Consider dremeling a blowhole in the top of the case, and installing a fan there to exhaust the hot air.

How's the air intake? Is there ample inflow?

If you look in your drivers tabs you will see Core slowdown theashold is 115C so there is your answer to "is 77C to hot", may be you need coolbits to see this BTW its on same part you o/c the sliders and its only gonna be in 3D anyhow on new card and drivers so your card will be at default in all apps but games, no point o/c it 24/7 to watch a movie or type a word doc or surf web.

just because it can "survive" at that heat doesn't mean thats optimal for its life. I recommend the OP get a better cooler.

Regarding the picture, the dull grey PCI metal cover tab, just below the graphics card, could be removed to let a bit of fresh air in...also, any of the power leads from the power supply that are not being used could be stuffed on top of the top cd drive to improve airflow.

well it's high for that card, despite what others say. some people like to live on the edge of insanity...the hotter it gets the shorter the life of it is...my friend was getting artifacts on his 9800XT at 83C...if you leave your computer on for longer, it's worse as well. he didn't have problems until he left it on for a couple days at that temperature. if you're worried about it, you should get a better fan for your video card like the Leadtek VF700-Cu VGA cooler. It's compatible with all GeForce 6800 cards. http://www.zalman.co.kr/eng/product/view.asp?idx=149&code=013

sweet jesus u have a cool card. my leadtek (yes the massive hunk of copper thing) usually gets up to 70 in intensive games. HL2 seems to be lenient, but Riddick and the New SC make it toasty....no problems though....and this is overclocked

what im thinkin of doing, if i can bring my self to remove all that copper, is get some Arctic Silver or something and reapply the thermal paste and HSF. ive heard it brings temps down abit as some factory installed HSF arent all that good.

or i may jus buy a zalman VF700Cu
